Portfolio for the Modeling Industry

Once you have decided that you want to become a model, the next step is to have a professionally prepared portfolio. It is rumored that you can take any photograph to an agency and if it suits them then they would make a portfolio for you as per their requirements. Thus, there is no need to make a professionally prepared portfolio. If you were extremely lucky, exceptionally good looking or very well connected then it might work, otherwise it is guaranteed to fail. The portfolio is an important tool for any model. Careful attention has to be paid while making your portfolio since the portfolio enters the industry first before you enter. Having a professionally prepared portfolio goes a long way towards obtaining modeling assignments and enhancing your modeling career.

Models should carry portfolios tailor-made to their abilities. A model with a great skin may be ideal for promoting skincare products while she may not be at ease walking the ramp. Another model may feel comfortable in lingerie advertisements while she may be uncomfortable in posing for jeans. If you are suited for Glamor modeling then the portfolio should be made accordingly. Or if you are cut out for Magazine or Fashion modeling then the portfolio should be made likewise. Or you may be suited to any type of modeling then your portfolio should exhibit all types of photos. Attempt to make a portfolio with which you are comfortable and can show it around with pride and confidence.

A professional portfolio should be made so that your chances of getting a contract are greatly increased. Hire the services of professional makeup artists and stylists, fix outdoor and indoor locations, and take numerous photographs in both color and black & white from different angles, in different poses and in different attires. Your images should be captured in full length, head & shoulders, 3/4 length shot, seated shot, straight shots, profiles, and other shots appropriate to your individuality and personality.

Photographs are usually of high professional quality, yet some of them are simply outstanding. Sift through all the photographs and ensure that your portfolio contains only the best photographs where you look positively stunning. Usually a portfolio should contain about 10 to 12 photographs. Try not to put all your photographs in the portfolio. Limit it only to such photographs in which you feel you look terrific. If you feel so, then others will also feel likewise.

Slowly as your career grows, put the cuttings of the magazine adverts, the fashion show reviews, billboard photographs, etc., in which you are featured, in your portfolio. Soon you will see that your portfolio has become a large and heavy one and you have become a successful model.
