Get Your PDX Party on with Local Labor Day Festivities

As one of the few places in the continental United States that will not be sweltering when summer comes to a close at the Labor Day long weekend, Portland is a popping area for family-friendly weekend fun.

On Labor Day 2011, a number of exciting opportunities to see art, ride some rides and go to a Labor Day concert are available for families wishing to wander the wares of the Pacific Northwest United States. Here are some Portland Labor Day events for 2011.

Get Cultured With Art in the Pearl 2011

Located in North Park in Portland, Oregon, art fans should head over to Portland's huge Labor Day arts festival, Art in the Pearl, for some Labor Day culture with the local art scene. Several concerts featuring international artists will also be rocking the stage at Art in the Pearl. Overall, Art in the Pearl is good family-friendly fun for the mildly party-inclined Portlander celebrating Labor Day.

Family-Friendly All-Day Fun at the Oregon State Fair

It happens every year, and it never gets old. The Oregon State Fair will be in town for Labor Day weekend yet again in 2011. Featuring rides, Labor Day concerts, food vendors and animal, art and agricultural exhibits, you can decide to learn, eat, dance or play around at the Oregon State Fair on Labor Day.

If gigantic streaming long weekend crowds are not for you, the Oregon State Fair dates for 2011 are August 26 through Labor Day on September 5, which gives you plenty of time to hit it up on an off day.

Ticketing information for the fair is here.

Get Lost on Labor Day by Browsing for Books for Hours

If all this family fun sounds a bit too raucous to you, perhaps you'd best spend your Labor weekend days at Powells Books, where you can wander amongst a forest of pages until you have freed your soul of your non-paper coil. They are open until 11 p.m.

I like the addition of the bookstore at the end. Just tickels my fancy.
