Portland Zombie Walk

Nicole Ramage
The Portland Zombie Walk was founded in 2005 where it started out as a flash mob of people performing Michael Jackson's Thriller at the Pioneer Courthouse Square. Since that time, it has become an annual even in October that has taken over the town. It is a family friendly event that allows everyone to participate at no cost. Currently, the Portland Zombie Walk is one of the largest Zombie Walks in the nation with over three thousand participants. It is put on by the Community Street Theater that does regular street performances throughout the year.

While there is no word yet as to when the Portland Zombie Walk will be taking place or where it's starting point will be, 2011 will be the first year that the Zombie Walk will have the proper permits and insurance required by the state. This change has been made ultimately due to the large number of participants throughout the city. The Community Street Theater would like it to be known that while this is a large throng of flesh eating zombies, streets will not be overtaken and the group will stay to the sidewalks and not hinder traffic. By do keep in mind that the City of Portland says that pedestrians set the pace for traffic within city limits as this is mostly a public transit city.
