Posing Questions

A Poem About the Major Oil Spill

April Higney
A rumbling, tumbling, thunderous sound,

far beneath the earth's ground.

Cracking, breaking, shifting, shaking,

posing questions,

catastrophe making?

Black rising through waters,

disrupting, erupting,

to the depths of the ocean floor,

but coming from further deeper,

what comes out,

must swallow back in,

deeper into the core.

Grounds sinking, the earth drinking,

taken in what is lost,

in hundreds of thousands of gallons,

far greater than money could cost.

Questioning too much,

maybe,

a better scientific explanation,

hopefully.

A vein of black, how far does it spread,

in the depths beneath the ocean's ground?

The grinding of drilling, gushing, spilling,

a vacant place beneath the earth's crust,

filling...filling.

A rumbling, tumbling, thunderous sound,

far beneath the earth's ground.

Cracking, breaking, shifting, shaking,

posing questions,

catastrophe making?

It is not just the water that is covered in 'slick'... it is the companies, themselves.
