Positive Expectatons in the Classroom

I strongly believe that positivity works a lot better than negativity. People are turned on by positivity while they are turned off by negativity. It's important for classrooms to be positive environment since no student wants to learn in a negative environment. I also think that it's very important for teachers to have positive expectations for their students. None of my math teachers had positive expectations for me when it came to math and this lead me to believe that I just couldn't do math. I also believe that zero tolerance policies are necessary and that they're really needed. I've seen elementary classrooms that were "no bully zones" and students got the message that bullying is wrong and they knew that they would have to face the consequences if they bullied another student. As for things like metal detectors and drug dogs, I don't think they're an issue for elementary schools. As for middle and high schools, it really depends on the school. Those types of things are expensive, so why have them in a school with no history or drugs or violence? At my highschool we always had a police officer on duty and it made most of us feel safer, it also deterred students from doing things they knew they could get arrested or in serious trouble for.
