Positively Living

Robin Skeen
You have probably been told to think more positively when you have been complaining about things in your life. It sure sounds like a cliché at the time. It is very good advice however. You can change your life by living in a positive manner. Perhaps it is difficult to see how changing the way you think can change the events in your life. Once you understand how it works, you will be amazed at how much your circumstances will improve. You will be on the path to a much happier life.

Why and how does thinking positive work? There are a couple of different ways. First, if you try to see the brighter side of a situation, it is much more likely that you will be able to find a solution to the problem. Finding good in situations as often as possible will bring clarity to your problem solving skills. If you are negative, you are going to miss important tools that could help you get through that situation. It is difficult at first to find the silver lining in each situation. Sometimes it may feel like it's not worth the trouble. The benefits, however, far outweigh what feels like a chore.

The second way that positive thinking works is that it affects the people around you. If you are known as the upbeat person on your job, those grumbling complainers will have a hard time being toxic to the environment. Wouldn't this be a much better place to spend your day? When people talk to you about a situation you may be going through, they will adopt the attitude you are presenting. You are much more likely to get constructive solutions when you have a positive attitude.

How do you get started making this positive thinking thing work? Even in the middle of a crisis, it is possible to change your attitude. Yes, it can be difficult to do this by nature, but you have to make it part of your nature first. It takes discipline and practice to develop the skill and focus necessary to change your thought patterns. One of the easiest and best ways to start is to do a list. Actually writing things down can help a great deal. Make columns on the page. On one side list everything positive that comes to you. On the other side, list the negatives. After you do this for a while, you will be surprised to find that the positive side will get longer every time you practice this.

Changing the way you look at each situation will make problems a little less overwhelming. Positively living is a choice, not something given to you at birth, at least for most of us. It can be yours with training and self-control. Make your life brand new by giving this positive thinking thing a whirl.
