Vast Online Holocaust Resource Now Available in Celebration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27th, 2011

January 27th, 2011 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD), as established by the United Nations in 2005. January 27th was chosen for the International Holiday because on this date in 1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated. Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest concentration camp and one of the first to be liberated from Nazi German rule. In honor of the day, the Yad Vashem Holocaust collections site has been launched. It features scads of information from Nazi-Germany, including letters, documents, diary entries, testimonies and over 130,000 high resolution pictures, which are all now highly searchable with the help of the Jerusalem Holocaust center's partner, Google (press release here). The Yad Vashemcollections site is another excellent resource to help remember the victims of concentration camps in Nazi-Germany.
