Possible Candidates for the 2008 WWE Hall of Fame

Bruce Bostwick
For Wrestlemania 24 coming up, there seems to be the question of who is going to get in that deserves it. The WWE has inducted many superstars that have made a mark in the industry. This year it comes to a question as to who gets in and who doesn't. Mostly if not all the inductees have been in retirement or unfortunately have died before their induction. Nevertheless, there are some candidates that could be expected to be inducted but it can be anyone's guess. There will probably be at least 6-10 members to join the WWE Hall of Fame. Without further or do, here are a list of candidates that could be predicted to get in based upon the credentials and why they deserve to get in.

Ric Flair-Face facts, the only reason they didn't put him in yet is because he's an active wrestler. He will probably be retiring so it would make sense to give him a spot pretty quick. One of his biggest claims to fame is being the 1st wrestler to have held the NWA, WCW, and WWF World Titles. He is known on WWE TV as a 16 time World Champion but in reality may have been World Champion more than that if the other reigns are counted. To break it down even further, 10 NWA World Titles, 8 WCW World Title Reigns, 2 WWF World Title Reigns, and of course if you count the WCW International Title as a World Championship, he was a 2 time WCW International World Champion. He has also been Tag Team Champion 3 times, 2 with Batista and 1 with current WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper. He held numerous titles and right now there is nothing else he could do. Look for him to be inducted this Wrestlemania coming up.

The Road Warriors-One of the greatest tag teams to ever exist. It would be logical to induct both of them at the same time considering they are known as a unit. Hawk and Animal didn't have much of a singles career but as a team, they were AWA Tag Champs, NWA Tag Champs, and WWF Tag Champs. Only Animal held the Smackdown Tag Team Titles but with Heindenrich due to Hawk passing away in 2003, which was as a shame that it happened. It is a shock they never held the WCW Tag Team Titles in the 1st place. There have been teams influenced by them and there is no doubt they deserve an induction. It's a surprise they haven't been considered yet.

Macho Man Randy Savage-His induction to the Hall of Fame needs to happen and it's unbelievable that he has yet to get a spot in. He's held the WWF and WCW World Titles only losing them to either Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair. Macho Man wasn't the biggest guy but did have a hand in helping make a mark in the wrestling industry. No one has been able to duplicate his style but has been replicated. Most recently, Jay Lethal is currently doing a character very close to Macho Man as a tribute going by the name of "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal. If he doesn't get in soon, it'll be a crime.

British Bulldog-While he had teamed with Dynamite Kid, he was mostly known as the star outside of that team and had a longer career. Maybe considered one of the best British wrestlers to not win the WWF Title despite getting a few shots. It was seen as sometimes the guy that was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He held every other major championship that was active during the time. To prove that point, he was Intercontinental, European, Hardcore, and Tag Team champion; the only thing missing was in fact the WWF Title at the time. Sadly in 2002, he did pass away due to a heart attack, stemming from anabolic steroid use back then. As far as performer wise, he wasn't that bad at all and could have been one of the few British wrestlers to ever be in the WWE at the time.

The Von Erich's-The name is one of the most celebrated families in wrestling history. They are like the Harts and the Guerreros to name a few some of the most recognized faces in the industry dating back in time during the WCCW days most likely. While only Kerry Von Erich made it in the WWE, the family as a whole made its mark in wrestling. It is true they didn't have much of a career in WWE but if you think about it, they inducted Verne Gagne, a man who never wrestled for the company but was known for the AWA and got in. Logically speaking, if they are going to induct based upon what's done that WWE owns like WCW, ECW, older NWA, AWA, WCCW, etc., then there is no reason they can't induct this family. It might end up being a short class of inductees but it might be longer. Those are some of the names that could get inducted. Looking at this list, it looks small but there could be more but these are some of the main guys that most likely should get considered for the WWE Hall of Fame. The names that get in will be the most deserving and without a shadow of a doubt should get in. Celebrities won't be getting in this year most likely. Only time will truly tell who gets in next.

  • Ric Flair is the only man to have been NWA, WCW, and WWF World Champion.
  • Macho Man only lost the WWF and WCW World Titles to either Flair or Hogan.
In 2006, Verne Gagne was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame despite never working for the WWE.
