The last book to the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is set to hit the shelves in July of 2007. All everybody knows right now is that the main character, Harry, will finally have the promised showdown with his evil nemesis Lord Voldemort. Will Harry Potter come out as the victor and disappoint many with a typical happy ending? Or has J.K Rowling really gone off the rocks and given us something that will truly spark a debate to last a lifetime?
None of the following possible endings have been thought of by the author herself, but nevertheless here is a list of what we may or may not want to see:
Harry Wins
Of course, to many a fans delight, Harry Potter just may reign superior over the evil Lord Voldemort. In the ending battle, his vast knowledge of wizardry (and perhaps a kind of pseudo-possession he may experience with the help of Professor Dumbledore) may pull him through to see a day without Lord Voldemort terrorizing the world of magic.
Voldemort Wins
Lord Voldemort absorbs so much evil through his killing sprees and black magic ways, enough even to defeat the so-called power of love that is protecting Harry. Of course, it has been established earlier in the series that Voldemort is no longer affected by the spell that keeps him from touching Harry Potter. But maybe he wants to gain so much power anyway so that he can totally vaporize Harry Potter with every ounce of magic and hate that he can muster.
Voldemort dies in the hands of another?
We can also toy around the idea that Harry Potter isn't the victor that everybody wants him to be. What about the characters in Ron Weasley or Hermione Granger? Surely all their time spent in school has also made them as great as the famous Potter. It could be that in a single act of rare courage from Ron saves Harry Potter from the deathly hands of his foe. Only this would mean that Ron instantly becomes the hero that never was. Hermione on the other hand could probably kill off Voldemort with all the knowledge she has gained at Hogwarts.
Dumbledore in a Horcrux?
Of course, all Potter fans know that Voldemort had himself "copied" into different Horcruxes so that he could be resurrected every now and then. Could Dumbledore have dabbled in the dark arts as well and left a part of his soul in a Horcrux, much like Voldemor did in the form of a diary and a ring? That would allow for Dumbledore to make a possible comeback. But that would also mean he made a step into the proverbial "dark side" of wizardry for performing such an evil spell.
There are many possible endings to the Harry Potter adventure and fans are eagerly awaiting the book that will close all its chapters. J.K. Rowling promises an ending will be enough for many a discussion for a very long time. We can only hope it's not open-ended and that, in some way, there is still a cruel twist in an expected happy ending.
