Here are some of the players who could be available for the taking if playoff hopefuls see the need.
JermaineO'Neal - Jermaine is getting very old and very fragile, very fast. But he can still put the ball in the hole. He is still scoring 20 points per 40 minutes. And he really is only 29, so you would hope that he has enough in the tank. At the very least, he can help back up a great big man and be the scoring option when the primary scorer has to stay on the bench. And when healthy, O'Neal is one of the best defenders in the league.
MikeMiller - He is another Memphis sell-off piece. Those GM's who are angry (TrueHoop) that the Lakers got Pau Gasol for so cheap should stop complaining and learn their lessons. Mike Miller certainly is great outside option that can fill it up from three-point land and stretch the defense. Have you seen that 10-0 winning streak that the Utah Jazz are on? Yeah, that doesn't happen if Kyle Korver isn't there changing the entire complexion of that team with his outside shooting ability.
SamCassell - He clamored for the Boston Celtics point guard position, swung on Rajon Rondo, and practically suggested that he should be bought out by the LA Clippers. We get it, Sam; you want to play for the Celtics. But in reality, any team could afford to have Sam on their team. He can run the offense, take advantage of young point guards, and he can make tough shots when the offense isn't clicking. Name me the last champion without a veteran point guard...?
RonArtest - He may be a crazy head case, but he can play ball. His offense is smooth and consistent, and he can do anything you ask him to do on that side of the court. But in addition to gaining a great scorer, Artest gives you top-flight defense, and brings an attitude to your entire team's defensive approach. You saw the kind of spark he gave the Kings in 2006, so don't pass up on the opportunity for him to do it for your team.
