When I was a student cultural difference had a negative impact on the social aspect of a classroom, at least for me. I was always teased on and picked on for being culturally and physically different. I always hated to go to sun since I knew the other kids were going to make fun of me. I normally tried to stay quiet in class so that I wouldn't draw any attention to myself. I think that teachers must welcome all students in the classroom, and make sure that students do the same thing. When all students are welcomed into the classroom, it can create a very positive environment. Students must accept other cultures and not dislike them because of stereotypes. When students like cultural differences, this leads to a positive environment. When students accept peers from other cultures, no student is isolated or left out. Students can read books where the main character is from another cultures. Students can listen to guest speakers from other cultures. They can learn about another culture from guest speakers and even get to ask speakers some questions. Students can also do a mini research project on another culture of their choice. Students need to take the time to get to know people from other cultures so that they can see for themselves that we are all people with the same basic human needs. Teachers must make sure to have a positive attitude about other cultures, and they can even talk about their cultural experiences with the students. Teachers must also speak out when a student says something bad about another culture since not speaking out will send the message that it's ok to say bad or negative things about another cultures. Teachers can also take students to visit cultural museums or cultural neighborhoods as part of a class fieldtrip.
