Post Christmas Deals in Borough Park, Brooklyn, New York

Sure, Christmas may be over, but Chanukah is still going strong. With the Jewish tradition of gift giving and consumers on the lookout for post-Christmas bargains, some of the best places to find things are in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn, New York.

We start off with everyone's favorite gift item, electronics. Duddy's Electronics and Appliance Center located at 4415 14th Avenue features a George Foreman Jumbo Grill for $29.99 (regularly $60), a set of Uniden Cordless Phones for $59.99 (regularly $90), and a Farberware Convection Oven Broiler, usually $90, on sale for $49.99.

Go a block over to 13th Avenue and the Closeout Connection, at 4518 13th Avenue, has what they call "upscale closeouts" so you won't find cheap toothpaste and watery detergent. Instead, you can get a variety of items, including 100 percent cotton men's shirts for $7.99, Deluxe Uno (which sells for $13.99 on Amazon.com) for $7.99, and a silver-plated jewelry box for $2.99.

A few blocks over on 5004 13th Avenue is Eichler's, the world's largest Judaica store. This coming Tuesday and Wednesday are Customer Appreciation Days, where the entire stock is 25 percent off. The store features books, CDs, DVDs, silver items, gift items, mostly Jewish in nature, but my experience has been that there's something for everyone.

If you're in the market for shoes, Savon Shoes, located at 3901 13th Avenue has marked down their Florsheim shoes from $95 to $65, Rockport's Pro Walkers that normally sell for $79 are now $55, and Ecco footwear, regularly $160 are marked down to $105.

Finally, the miracle of Chanukah happened with oil, so the Jewish custom is to eat foods made with oil, particularly donuts. Weiss Bakery, at 5011 13th Avenue offers two free donuts with the purchase of a dozen. These donuts are sold only on Chanukah, so don't wait. They put some of the chain store donuts to shame.
