Post Traumatic Stress After a Miscarriage and Then Meeting Eye to Eye with the Fetus

Jenny Heart
Miscarriages are emotionally draining. A woman's health needs to be rstored as soon as possible in order to restore good mental balance. The body, mind, and spirit are strong; however when too much stress is laying on the heart of someone then the body, mind, and spirit collapse.

Post traumatic stress is when a tragic event happens to someone, and they can't get over the feelings of fright due to mental and physical trauma..

Post traumatic stress can come from may things for everyday people. Here is what happened to me that left me scared mentally and physically.

Had two miscarriages

Miscarriages along may not cause post traumatic stress disorder; however, what happened to me next did. I was almost four months pregnant when I started spotting. I knew it felt like my first miscarriage. I was only six weeks the first time. I knew something was wrong when I felt cramps and the urge to push. My doctor told me after I lost the fetus, that it was perfect as far as he could see. It just didn't hold.

I ask the doctor if it looked bad, and he told me the fetus was perfect. I did something I would now tell other women in the same situation not to do. I ask to see the fetus. To me it was my baby. The doctor shared with me that he thought it was a boy. The doctor said it would be alright if I wanted to see the fetus. At first the fetus (Baby) looked perfect. He had arms, legs; everything looked perfect, but smaller. His chest was a little blue, but what I looked at next shocked me for many years. The eyes looked like domes, or the eyes of a frog. The fetus hadn't shaped the eyelids yet.

The worst symptom I experienced was flashbacks. It haunted me for years. Help remind someone who has lost a child that hasn't been fully developed that he is in a better place. Just don't let then look. A baby who is fully developed is a different story and can be easier for the mind to handle verses a fetus half developed.

Members of my family never thought I should have been allowed to see the fetus. I shouldn't have asked. I just had to know at the time if I had done anything wrong. Many women feel blame, and seek for answers.

All tragic events need tender, loving care from their loved ones. Make sure that if you know someone who has suffered post traumatic stress that you get them help. Their body, mind, and spirit needs to heal the best it can.

Counselors and family members can help tremendously; however people involved in someone's life that has experienced this must be realistic. Healing takes tender loving care, and lots of time, faith, and prayer

Here is a link that will help you understand post- traumatic stress. It's not easy to get through; however through understanding comes new found hope.

Miscarriages don't have to end our hope for a great life. It just needs to be first understood. Then, new hopes and dreams can be built after a strong foundation has been set.
