First of all, this is not an article trying to tell how the PS3 is the best console to buy. I've just gone to a lot of sites and most of them bash the PS3 unfairly. From what I've researched most cons of the PS3 are easily countered with a Pro. So here are some of the most common complaints I've seen, with me showing the full story.
-
- Sony is trying to shove Blu-ray down our necks. I don't want to watch expensive DVD's on my console.
-
- The PS3 will be too expensive to develop for. Not very many release titles.
-
- PS3 "stole" Live and the Wii motion-sensor controller.
-
- The PS3 is big, and the curved top doesn't allow stacking.
-
- PS3 is charging you for a lot of things that most people won't use.
-
- The controller is missing Rumble.
-
- And of-coarse the PS3 is the most expensive console, too expensive for average gamers.
-
My rebuttal:
-
- A company trying to shove a product down our neck… ummm…. nothing new there, and Blu-ray will be used for games as well. Now this does make games more expensive, but I for one would rather pay a little more and get a bigger, better, prettier game. Play one game I really like for a longer time, with more options, with more things happening on screen at on time (due to the cell processor) and in better graphics. Also, I buy very, very few DVD's, so if a movie is good enough to make me buy a copy of it, I want it to be top quality; I understand this doesn't apply to some people, just my opinion.

- Big, successful game developers can afford to make games, and the way they got so successful is by making good games (duh…), meaning good games. I wouldn't even pay 50 dollars for a lame game on the PS2, why would I pay 60+ for yet another lame game on the PS3. Few release titles isn't a bad thing, as long as the games are good, like Resistance FOM, Warhawk, F.E.A.R, and some others. Also, PS2 games aren't going out of style anytime soon. If you can't afford a PS3 game or if you just don't see anything you like at the time, pick up some of those good-ol-titles till the big dogs come.

- Stole is the wrong word, they didn't take these things away from Xbox or Wii, they copied them, Xbox still has live, and Wii still has its weird controller. Sony probably knew its risk factor was high enough already so instead of thinking of some new cheesy idea, they used things people already know they like, everyone does it. And if you pay 600 bucks for a console I think your entitled to these extras.
-
-
- It is big, to most of us this isn't a big deal, but I could see where they would dislike that in Japan. How often do you move your game console though? As for stacking, I'm not paying 600 bucks for something, and 100+ for something else, just to stack them up and risk overheating them.
-
-
- Research it; find out all the extra things it offers so you can try them out. As for the 1080p and HDMI, I suggest an LCD monitor. Some of the new monitors will feature HDMI and will be perfectly suitable for gaming. Look into it though; be careful when buying an LCD screen. You'll need to know what you need for gaming, sadly the size of the screen will be pretty small, but still it's cheap. If money isn't an issue get a big CRT T.V. This way you can fully enjoy the benefits the extra boost in graphics will bring.
-
-
- To me this doesn't seem like a big deal, I liked the rumble feature but I don't mind that it's gone. Apparently there is a big demand for it though, so some dual-shock controllers will almost certainly come out.
-
-
- Well…ummm… yea this is true, but game consoles last an easy 5 years +, and for a good system that will last, 600 dollars is not a terrible investment. Really, the PS3 will hit its golden point with its first price drop, by then some GREAT games will be out, some good combo offers will be setup and hopefully some greatest hits will be on sell for cheap.

I know this comes off as me praising the PS3, and I am. Mainly because I'm getting one so I'm not going to talk junk about it. But the Xbox is still a very nice system and I don't see why anyone should say otherwise, but when it comes down to it I can only get one and PS3 appeals to me more. But what about Wii, I'm just not a fan of Nintendo's game line-up, never have been. Nintendo even says they are trying to appeal to people who don't usually play games, but I always have. WHERE ARE THEIR GAMES FOR GAMERS!
If you want to call me stupid, go ahead, just please explain why I'm stupid, that way I can get some fancy book learnin and try to improve myself. Ok dokey then, thats all I have to say.

Post a Commentjust give the ps3 a year and the games will be much more graphically develpoed than the 360, right now the 360 graphics kill the ps3 graphics but thats just because the ps3 game develpoers were in a hurry to develop their games for launch and also cuz they havent really messed with the cell.
ps3-up to 8 controllers
ps3-blu ray
but the 360 is still a great console.
but to bad when your playing a game u have to turn it up all loud cuz the 360 is very loud.

Very well said Claton, I fully and completly agree. But since say this wont do me any good and all that interest me is the PS3, and i love games. It seems as though sonys kinda caught me, it would be so mush more convient if they just did what you said. and the wii is incredible for the price, but i dont enjoy nintendo games anymore. So yep the pan for me is just grap the PS3 for the games, not fret over the price becaus ehtere notin i can do and enjoy what i get
bring me better graphics and gameplay. i don't like to say it but the Wii may be the way to go. microsoft already has the computer market locked. Sony needs to take the lead once more not in sales but in simple but great technology.
i am going to lay it simple.....Nintendo did their thing for many years just keeping it real for the gamers and loyal buyers of their systems. Microsoft has revolutionized the way console-computer in a very short amount of time. Why should Sony worry about trying to Blu-Ray this and wireless this? i am a gamer that doesn't need all of the special percs to have a console that has a chip in it that functions better and cost more than the one in my vehicle(s). i want a console with graphics that look and move like Jimmy Neutron but it doesnt take have to do so much to compete will 360 and Wii. I thnk that Sony should drop the idea of Blu-Ray until Blu-Ray components come down in price and concentrate on another $200-$300 console that will lead to the demise of yet another competitor as it did to SEGA some years ago. if it is all about playing a game or making sure that i can download this and save this to my harddrive then get a computer. i just want a console similar to the PS2 that wil
Part 2! Also many have pointed out that the PS3 is lacking some exclusive titles, it is, BUT look at the exclusive titles it does have GT5, MGS4, FF13! These have quite a fanbase. As long as sony can keep these games I need to get a PS3, considering these are my favorite games of all time. DVD made PS2 such a success, so the next step was to put a Next-gen DVD into their Next-gen console. I dont see why taking a risk suddenly makes you hated by everyone, just wait and see, and if you hate sony and really want to stick it to them, instead of putting random complaints on every website, just dont buy the PS3... thats all there is to it.
Hi all, I've enjoyed your positive comments, and the other comments have made me realize a big error in my article. *In my first paragraph I said "most cons of the PS3 are easily countered with a Pro." which is wrong. The correct thing for me to say here is "Most cons of the PS3 are exagerated and not completly true." As for why I'm not exited about the Wii line-up is because I'm bored with Zelda games, Hate Mario, and metroid is decent but there is just to many better games, I do like Far cry but I got it on computer, some others arnt bad but then theres very few coming, that interest me. Also when I metion company trying to push a product, I didnt say gaming company, Sony has many more products than the Playstation line and Microsoft has enough power to decide their products that go. More to come...
I guess I will make a bundle on ebay this christmas, go PS3 and as for Jacks comment MS lies...Sony has never mislead the public except maybe an April release, Toy Story graphics (PS2), 2 HDMI with dual 1080p output, PS2 HDD support, and oh yeah 1080p TVs that can't even accept a true 1080p signal. MIcrosoft isn't always upfront but come on.
i cant believe i just read the majority of what everyone wrote. i havent talked to been able to hype up the ps3 to too many people because my brother has a 360 and i dont want to put him down too much. however, the ps3 is giving you way more bang for your buck. and sadly i have had alot of time as of late so i have taken the liberty of researching HD TV's and stuff like that. long story short the ps3 is the only system that will provide gamers with the next generation of visual technology. the technology is just more advanced, and the only way to see that difference is with the accesories the ps3 gives you. the HDMI output alone makes the system worth it. and to say the BluyRay is anything but awesome is ridiculous. you can cram 4 hours of high definition video on those things. i think thats around 7 times the amount of a HD-DVD. ok im done
I have a couple things to say. First, is that even though the PS3 is ALOT better than the Wii and ALOT ALOT better than the 360, the Wii and the 360 are still amazing systems. I myself own a 360 and will get a PS3 before this year's over. I might not get a Wii till maybe next year but thats not the point. Second, LET NOBODY SAY PS3 IS FOR RICH PEOPLE. I AM FAR FROM RICH AND AM STILL GETTING A PS3 AT LAUNCH. Third, the only reason some people say 360 is better than PS3 is because they are brainwashed by Microsofts propaganda and ads, that are full of nothing but lies. Fourth, PS3 is CHEAP if you look at what they give you. Lets compare what a 60gb PS3 comes with out of the box and what a premium 360 gives you.
A PS3 comes with blu-ray playback out of the box. 360 needs a seperate adaptor for hd-dvd.
A PS3 comes with Wi-Fi out of the box, meaning you can use the internet and play online where ever you go. with the 360 you need to have it connected to you modem with an ethernet ca
