Potato Leek Soup Review: Health Valley Organic Potato Leek Soup
I Thought the Soup Tasted Good and I was Glad that I Tried It
From what I can tell a leek is in some ways similar to an onion but in other ways it is not. I didn't have the slightest clue as to what it was going to taste like and eagerly made the soup as soon as I had the opportunity. Cooking the soup was not difficult at all, in fact in complete honesty it was down right simple. The Health Valley Organic Potato Leek Soup was ready to go straight into a pot without the use of anymore water, I simply just needed to heat it up. This didn't even take me ten minutes and I was on my way to eating a bowl of potato leek soup. I thought that the overall taste of the soup was actually really good. For being a canned soup it had some nice flavors and the potatoes were not too mushy, which I was concerned about. As for the taste of the leeks in the soup I was taking an extra notice of their taste and texture.
The leeks had a similar taste to a mild onion but at the same time they really offered their very own taste. This taste was quite delicious and in the soup they made an excellent addition to the potatoes and other ingredients. I thought that they were not too mushy as well which made them even more enjoyable. While in the store I looked over the ingredients to make sure that the Health Valley Organic Potato Leek Soup was vegetarian so I was familiar with what the soup contained. It had filtered water, organic potatoes, organic celery, organic carrots, organic potato flakes, organic onions, organic leeks, organic cane sugar, concentrated lemon juice, parsley, white pepper, bay leaves, organic basil, organic sage and oregano. I thought that these ingredients looked very good and was glad that a lot of them were organic. I took note the leeks were listed as the seventh ingredient and yet I thought that there was a nice amount of them in the soup. Although I didn't look at the nutrition facts while I was in the grocery store I did look at them once I got home.
The can of Health Valley Organic Potato Leek Soup contained just about two cups worth of soup, or about two servings of potato leek soup. The entire can was pretty filling on its own but if you are really hungry you may want to have it with some bread or make two cans. As a lunch I had just one can and some toast. In half of the can I got one hundred and ten calories with only twenty calories from fat. There was only two grams of protein, sugars and fiber in half of can too. In addition in a cup of the potato leek soup there was only thirty milligrams of sodium, twenty grams of carbohydrates, thirty percent listed for vitamin A, half of the that listed for vitamin C, four percent listed for calcium and six percent listed for iron. There was no salt added to the soup so that explained the low sodium content. All in all I thought that the nutrition facts were pretty good.
I am glad that I tried the Health Valley Organic Potato Leek Soup. It has inspired me to keep my eyes open for some fresh leeks and maybe use them in a dish or two of my own. This was not the first time that I had tried something from the Health Valley company, previously I tried their Organic Multigrain Maple Honey Nut Square-Ems Cereal and Organic Multigrain Apple Cinnamon Square-Ems Cereal and now that I have tried some of their soups I am going to keep this company in mind a lot more when I am shopping. I would recommend to anyone to give the Health Valley Organic Potato Leek Soup a try as long as they like leeks. When I found my can it was on sale for three cans for five dollars, which isn't a bad price at all for an organic canned soup.
