Pottery Barn Kids Recalls Dolls After Reports of Near Strangulation

Approximately 81,000 soft dolls have been recalled by Pottery Barn Kids in the United States and another 1,200 in Canada, after reports of near strangulation were reported to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recalled dolls include the "Audrey," "Sophie" and "Chloe" models; each were manufactured in China and sold exclusively at Pottery Barn Kids stores nationwide from July 2006 through April 2011. The dolls retailed for approximately $40.00 and were available through Pottery Barn Kids' catalogs. The dolls have hair made from yarn that can turn into loops that are large enough to fit around a child's neck and throat, posing a strangulation hazard.

According to a joint announcement from the CPSC and Pottery Barn Kids, there have been five reported incidents of the dolls' hair forming loops, and in one incident, the hair was looped around a 21-month-old child's neck. The child was not injured. Consumers may either cut the dolls' hair to prevent looping or contact Pottery Barn Kids for information regarding exchanging the doll for store credit.

The "Audrey," "Sophie" and "Chloe" dolls stand approximately 17" high. Each doll's name is sewn into a tag located on the bottom of the doll. The "Audrey" doll has black hair and wears a headband. Those who intend on keeping the dolls are advised to cut and remove "Audrey's" headband and cut any loops in the hair. The "Chloe" doll has dark brown hair and the "Sophie" doll has blonde hair. These dolls do not have headbands, but concerned parents should cut any loops from the doll's hair as well.
