Potty Mouth: An Irreverent Villanelle

A Not-Quite-Romantic Villanelle

Khara E. House

The fall came like the crow song--suddenly--
and with it, swift, our time together spent,
and truth was etched in embers on the leaves.

You whispered in my ear, "I have to pee"
and off to porcelain chamber quickly went;
its fall came like the crow song--suddenly.

Returning you sat gently next to me.
You took my hand in yours, so soft and wet--
a damp truth etched like embers on the leaves.

"Do you," you murmured in my ear, so sweet
"have a plunger?"--thus dropped my state content,
sent falling like the crow song--suddenly.

And off to porcelain bowl I ran--such speed!
Oh horror!, at the spillage you had lent
unto the floor, like embers on the leaves.

I scream, "My word, it's all over my feet!"
You scream, "Calm down, it was an accident!"
I slip and fall like crow song--suddenly--
which leaves you laughing embers as you leave.
