You should fill the bathtub up about five inches for medium size iguanas because this will allow them to actually test the water out without the fear of sinking. If your iguana has never been exposed to water then it may be scared so you should only use enough water so that the iguana can float in the water. Make sure that the water is warm and not hot because it may bother the iguana if it is too hot.
Once the water is set you will need to take your iguana out of the tank by picking it up with your two hands. When you do this you should pin it's legs and arms to its body because iguanas tend to scratch anyone holding them when they feel as if they are off balance. Picking them up makes them feel as if they are falling so if you do not want to get scratched pin their claws down.
Put the iguana in the water and it will begin to swim, the iguana will not drown but you should watch to make sure the water is not too high. Allow the animal to swim around until it goes to the bathroom in the water.
Once it goes you should drain the waste from the tub and allow the iguana to swim around in the tub for a while. You can then put it back in the tank and if you repeat this process every day your iguana will learn that it is expected to use the bathtub to go to the bathroom.
This is one simple thing that you can do in order to enhance to the life of your pet iguana and make caring for the animal a lot easier for yourself since you will not constantly be required to clean the tank.
