Potty Training with Fisher Price

The Fun to Learn Potty

Alyssa Branen
My son is 2 ½. He is at that stage where he doesn't want to keep his diaper on for long periods of time. To avoid messes on the rug, we figured it was time we tried to get him interested in using a potty. The toilet itself scares him and he won't sit on it. He is fascinated by the flusher, but that is about it. We toyed around with the idea of getting a little seat attachment so that he could just sit on that on our toilet. However, we figured it would be easier to get him a little potty to try out, since he is scared of the big toilet anyway.

When researching pottys, we considered that we didn't want it to look too much like a toy. We wanted one that slightly resembled a toilet so he wouldn't think it was just a toy to play with. The problem was, was that we also wanted it to catch his interest. A lot of pottys just looked like little chairs with holes. He would never be able to figure out that he is supposed to do anything with it other than sit.

When cruising through the baby section of Walmart one day, we came across The Fisher Price Fun To Learn Potty. It looked like a toy AND a toilet. I was a bit concerned that maybe it was TOO fun for a potty. It had a real looking flusher that made noise when flushed. A fake toilet paper roll that sings songs when you roll your hands over it and a bunch of other noises and sounds. However, the Fisher Price Fun To Learn Potty was the only potty that really resembled a toilet, so we bought it. We are SO glad we did!

It was very easy to assemble and my son loves the sounds it makes. He hasn't figured out the number two aspect of using the potty, but he pees in it constantly. There have only been a few times that he misses, or forgets to use it. The removable urinal makes for easy cleanup. (I've learned to clean it out immediately or some toy cars end up in there.)

The Fisher Price Fun To Learn Potty is also able to be taken apart and put on a real toilet for transitioning purposes. Though we are not ready for that phase yet, that is a nice option to have. The sounds and songs even carry over onto the normal toilet. This could possibly make sitting on the real potty less scary.

For the price of $30 or less at Walmart, and $24.87 currently on special on the Walmart website, you can't go wrong with The Fisher Price Fun To Learn Potty. Don't forget to buy the 3 "C" batteries so that you can hear all the fun sounds and songs and flushing noises. That is the best part! So be patient, and happy potty training! Thanks Fisher Price! I highly recommend this product.
