Potty Training on the Go: Reviews of Travel Potties

An important thing to do while potty training your child is to be consistent. That means, whether you're at grandma's or at a restaurant, if your child needs to go potty - make sure there is a way for them to go. Whatever you do, don't use a diaper "just this one time" just because it seems convenient. This is only going to make your life more difficult in the long run.

What options do you have when you're out and about?

Well, you can try getting your child to use a public toilet if your someplace like a store, or your can try the big toilet if you're at a friend's house. Now, you might encounter some problems if you try these as your toddler might not be used to or be ready for the big toilets. This could cause them to hold it in (which can cause more problems - constipation!) or they just might be afraid to use either of these.

Another option you have is to purchase a travel potty. Travel potties are great because they are built for your little one and you have the ability to get them used to using them by practicing first at home a few times.

There are several different styles of travel potties that you can use. The most common travel potty usually consists of a type of seat designed for your child's smaller fanny, that fits over big toilet seats so your little one can use them. These usually fold up for easy transport in your diaper bag - that way you're not walking around with a toilet seat under your arm whenever you go out!

Mommy's Little Helper has a travel potty that fits into this category. It is basically a little seat that folds up for easy storage, and fits over any regular sized toilet. These are easy to use when you aren't at home, and they're easy to carry with you.

The other type of travel potty that is available is one that is more like a regular potty seat in that it doesn't go over a bigger toilet.

Fisher Price has a travel potty called the Fisher Price On The Go Potty. It's a little potty seat that folds up and has a sturdy tripod base. This travel potty also has a convenient little tote that it stores in, so that it's discreet and can go with you wherever you want to go with your child. It also comes equipped with baggies that you can easily tie up and toss away after your child uses the potty - making clean up super simple.

There are a number of other brands that make travel potties like the Fisher Price one. The Potty Training Store has a nice selection of travel potties. We've been using the Fisher Price model and our little guy uses it when we're out without any problems. It's been a life saver in that we don't have to worry about using the toilets in public restrooms, and when we're at a friends, he's not afraid to tell us when he needs to go, because he knows he has his own potty available.

The important things that you need to consider when shopping for a travel potty are how easy is it to carry around with you? Does it take up a lot of room in the diaper bag? Can you carry it with you discreetly? And how easy is the clean-up? The last thing you want to have to do is try to clean up a potty just so you can place it back in a diaper bag to carry it around. As my little guy likes to say - yuck!
