The Potty Training Reward Method
One way to help your child with potty training is to come up with a reward system for your child. This is one method that has worked on two of my three children during potty training. Purchase a bank for your child. It can be a piggy bank or a bank that is their favorite Disney character or whoever their favorite character is. Every time they go the potty, give them a little change. This could even just be a few pennies. After a while, you can use the money to treat them to some ice cream.
The Chart Method
You can help your child with potty training by making up a chart with stickers. You can find some free potty training charts on the Potty Training Concepts website. These charts include the popular Cars, Diego, Disney Princess, Dora The Explorer, Thomas & Friends, Winnie the Pooh, and more. Every time your child goes to the potty, you can place a sticker on their chart. They will love this!
Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Potty
A lot of parents are having success with the Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Potty. The potty has realistic toilet elements with a lot of fun rewards and encouragement for your child to succeed in potty training. The potty actually responds to your child's actions and has many fun phrases, music, and sound effects. There are many things your child can do while sitting on the Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Potty. They can open or close the seat lid, pull the flusher, spin the toilet paper roller, and when they do go potty, they will hear encouraging positive responses. This potty is difficult to find and many people are looking for it. You can purchase the potty at Walmart or Amazon.com.
The Dr. Phil Method
Dr. Phil's Potty Training Method is simple. You will need to purchase a doll that drinks and wets, a potty-chair, and underwear. Dr. Phil's method is have you and your child feed his or her new doll some water and then take the doll to the potty with your child and watch the doll go potty on the potty-chair. When the doll goes potty, make a big deal about it and throw a potty party so that your child knows that going potty is a positive thing. Then you will want to let your child know that when he or she goes potty too, they will have their own potty party.
Parent-led Toilet Training
Take your child to the store to pick out his or her own potty chair. Bring the potty home and put the potty in the room that your child spends the most time in. With your child's clothes on, encourage her to sit on the potty and let her become accustomed to the potty chair. Wait a few weeks before you begin your potty training. Purchase some pull-ups and watch your child to see if they are making any sign that they need to go to the potty. You may see your child making faces, grunting, squirming, stretching their diaper, or their face turning red. Encourage them to try to sit on the potty chair, when they do go, praise them and give them a little treat reward. If you child doesn't go, let them know that they did a good job trying. Always praise your child either way. Every time your child has a large glass of liquid, after 30 - 40 minutes later, have them sit on their potty chair.
Be Patient
This is the number one tip for Potty Training your child. You must have patience because every child is different and some children may take longer than others in the potty training department.
Color the Water
Try using a little food coloring in the toilet with your child's favorite color to motivate them to go pee or poop in the potty.
Sing a Song with Your Child
Sing some potty songs with your child. Potty Training Concepts has some free potty songs you can learn and sing with your child to help with potty training.
