Poughkeepsie Kid Friendly Hotels

Gems
Not all hotels in the Poughkeepsie area are equipped to entertain kids; find a hotel that suits your family's travel needs. Here are a few that might work for you.

Hampton Inn Suites Poughkeepsie has Suites that can sleep up to six people and a breakfast that is kid friendly. Rates are about $176 - $195 a night for a suite. A suite has several amenities such as a fridge, microwave, sink and countertop in the living room area and is ideal for staying in the same suite with younger children and still having some privacy. There is a area to eat in the suite and a pullout couch.

The Courtyard Marriott in Poughkeepsie also has regular rooms and suites that have a separate pull out couch and separate bedroom area, along with a small fridge and microwave. Kids like the pool and they have a buffet breakfast with waffles and omelets. Snacks are available and there are frequently a plate of chocolate chip cookies for free in the late afternoon. Rates for Suites are about $177 a night.

If you are largely interested in a clean place to sleep and not too concerned about extra amenities, the Econo Lodge is a clean hotel room without any extras. Very young children likely will not notice the difference between this hotel and one with more amenities and older kids probably won't mind saving money to spend on the actual trip activities in lieu of a fancier room. Rooms are about $70 to $80 a night depending on date of stay.

About two miles from Vassar is the Days Inn, also simple and efficient with a pool and free breakfast and WiFi. Rooms range around $84 - $90 a night.

If you are traveling with tweens or teens instead of very young children, you might want to check out Vassar Alumnae House, as it is actually open to non-Vassar alumni (the general public) for around $81 a night, year round rate. This is a 1920's era Mansion on Vasser property, it is in the middle of some great architecture and history. The rooms are comfortable but have no television but they do have free wi-fi and a great buffet breakfast for $6. There is a sitting room and library and the House is exceptionally clean. This hotel is an excellent room rate, so if you are planning on doing at lot of site seeing or activities during the day and not too concerned about occupying yourself at the hotel, this is a nice place to stay with a bit more character than some chain hotels. There are lots of restaurants nearby and of course various events on the college campus. The money you save on rooming can go to some fun activities during your trip. The neighborhood feels quant and safer than the busy areas around some chain hotels. Because few people know if it available to the public, there is usually an available room.
