Now the reason I am saying that this catnip flavor was a purrrfect treat for my cats, especially Otis is because of what I saw in his personality when I gave him this treat. First, let me give you the setup and the cats involved.
It was a pleasant Saturday morning. The grass still had its morning dew on it. There was Otis, aka Proud Bubba, who is my 3 year old male cat with a... let's just say has a unique personality. He's very social. He actually talks to you. He acts tough but is really sensitive inside that ball of fur. The way Otis talks is that he makes double sounds when he is happy and makes other sounds to let us know what he wants. Our other cat, Milo Girl, just stares and you're suppose to guess what she wants. I have never seen a cat like Otis before who really is trying to verbalize with you.
Milo, aka Milo Girl, is a skittish 5 year old female who does not like to be touched and is no where near as social as Otis. Next door we have Ralph, a male cat that visits my 91 year old neighbor, Kathryn. He really belongs to Kathryn's son but Ralph loves to come over to our yard to "play" with my cats. Typically they have all got along with an occasional "chicken" playfulness.
So this beautiful morning, apparently Otis should probably have stayed in my bed and not gone out to played with Ralph. We have a lot of birds in our yard and Otis was watching them; when suddenly, I hear this piercing scream from Otis. There was Ralph who tackled him from behind and was on his back pinning him down and viciously biting him with fur flying all over. My husband had to throw some dirt at Ralph to get him off of Otis which he did. In the meantime, I guess Milo saw this coming and she scurried inside the house looking at the skirmish because she did not want any part of this. So my husband takes Otis inside and he's all wet with the morning dew and dirt, however he has such a sad look on his face as if his pride was hurt.
Well, you could tell this ordeal bothered Otis and he wanted a treat. He has a unique way of telling me his yearn for a treat, besides caressing my leg with his back or making one of his double guttural sounds. He jumps on top of my kitchen cabinets which is 12 feet off the ground and stops and looks down at me. That's his way of saying he wants something. I gave him a different treat before this after he was taken in, however apparently that didn't satisfy him. So I just told him he had enough and to come down which he would not do. He continued to stay up there and stare at me while I made pancakes.
Normally when I cook, the stove's flat black top stays hot for while. I was done with the pancakes and we sat down to eat. Little did we realize that Otis was going to compound his day with a hot foot to the paw.
He jumped down from the cabinets and walked on my counter to where the stove was and quickly jumped off. Luckily there were no fried paws. My husband and I quickly consoled Otis.
I went to get a bag of Pounce Perks catnip flavor that was not opened yet. And guess what Otis did? He made a double sound telling me he wanted more. You could see in a few minutes later the "old" Otis was coming back. He actually wanted to go back outside to see if Ralph was there. I guess that was the male in him.
So, Pounce brought Otis back to his old "proud "self quicker than any of the other brand treats I had in my cabinet. You could say Pounce Perks perked Otis back up!
Even though you should not use treats as a substitute for food and use it sparingly, I always like to look at the protein content of my cats' foods and treats. The crude protein is 29% minimum which is the norm for a cat treat. Some of the cat treats do not list the crude protein content like Friskies Hairball. Temptations have a 30% crude protein. Cats need high protein and less fillers for a good diet. I must say Pounce Perks catnip flavor gives 100% cat satisfaction or your hairballs back!
