Power Generation in Halmahera

Solar Panels 4 U Provides Power

Juan Trevino
The Sustainable Pacific Corporation (SPC) has singed a deal with Solar Panels 4 U, in which this later company will provide energy to all projects for Halmahera Island. This gives the island's development project a big boost, and is expected to attract investors who need land for food production in a clean and sustainable manner. Halmahera Island is part of the republic of Indonesia, and is located 1000 kilometers south of Manila. Please see: http://www.articlesbase.com/environment-articles/halmahera-the-land-of-sustainable-development-989494.html

Already there is an investor looking to obtain 30,000 hectares of land for Agricultural production. But no deal will go through unless there is sufficient electrical power to move all their electrical equipment, and have sufficient fuel at affordable price, to power up the vehicles used to clear land, plant trees, create roads and erect buildings. Currently, Halmahera does have a small electrical power capacity provided by the state owned Electrical Power Company PLN in a limited grid. All liquid fuels are imported into the island of Ternate, to be later taken to Halmahera by private businesses who charge a premium for the fuel. Island authorities have stated and are looking for development that could be sound, sustainable and green for their island. So far, local farmers today grow their crops in an organic manner, because they are not investing to buy chemicals, Thus, SPC is looking for investors who would be willing to grow crops in an organic manner, and to stay away from chemicals that could spoil the land. Hence, the signing of the contract between Sustainable Pacific Corp and Solar panels 4 u is an attractive proposition, because power will be generated in a natural way in the same place where it will be used, generating no carbon foot print. .

ELECTRICAL POWER SOLUTION

Solar Panels 4 U (SP4U) is a European Power Technology integrator, who advocates and supplies sustainable and green power generation alternatives. SP4U's "off the grid", "stand alone equipment" generates electricity from solar panels and wind turbines. The equipment capacities can vary from 400 watts p/hour to 10 Kwh or even greater. Larger needs are approached using multiple units. This implies that power generation equipment is installed where ever is needed, in a modular design for growth. Thus, SP4U will supply, standalone light poles with surplus energy to power up the machine tools required by the user, including A/C equipment, water pumps, communication equipment, etc.

Distributed power generation equipment such as the type SP4U provides, scales down the investment required to install a central power generation plant, transmission cables, dedicated land on which the transmission cables are placed, stations and substations, step down transformers and the rest of the equipment required to develop an electrical grid. The magnitude of the investment required for a Centralized Power generation plant, from coal or oil, may start in the tens of millions of USD plus a continuous and regular supply of fuel while the plant runs. However, SP4U approach may start in the tens of thousands of USD and may require a regular supply of free Sun and Wind, It will also avoid central interruptions and brown outs common to centralized power plants. See the power transmission lines you will not need.

Equipment is independent of each other. It employs a hybrid energy generation source such as wind and solar, and contain a battery bank, to ensure that surplus electricity generated at any one point in time can be stored for later use, when there is no sun or wind. SP4U uses up to date wind turbines with magnetic levitation technology and vertical blades to capture any wind turbulence. It further combines an ingenious approach of imbedding the wind turbines on top of structures that create a difference of temperatures, capable of generating a wind draft that contributes to power up the turbine. So electricity generated would be used for lights, electrical equipment, machinery, tools, pumps, electrical vehicles, communication equipment and any other equipment. But this solution to power generation only solves the electrical part of the problem in Halmahera.

DIESEL FUEL SOLUTION

Not all vehicles coming to the island can be light weight electrical vehicles. In fact the need to move land, plant, harvest, build roads, erect building will require heavy duty vehicles, the type that run best on diesel engines. Also, as soon as the tourist industry sees the potential in Halmahera greater fuel will be needed. Fuel needs were identified and reported on http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1966610/jatropha_cultivation_in_halmahera.html?cat=15

Thus, the plan to allocate 1,500 Hectares (3,750 acres) or marginal land for planting Jatropha continues. Even a greater land allocation can be made in a later date if this is required. Producing Jatropha oil would lessen the need to rely on the diesel which is being brought into the island by Pertamina. The Sustainable Pacific Corporation believes that devoting marginal land to the growth of Jatropha is recovering land that would otherwise not be used. Hence, the company estimates that it can provide diesel from Jatropha oil at slightly lower price than Pertamina's diesel price in the Island, coming from a renewable source of energy, reducing by far the Green House Gases that would have been generated from fossil-non-renewable fuels. The Jatropha oil needs no refining, and its only cost is the planting, harvesting, extracting oil from the seed. The transportation cost in fossil fuels boost its price where Jatropha oil is produced, thus make it economically feasible.

Land is available starting at 10 Hectares, and larger lots of 5,000 and 10,000 hectares, with services or with out services. Indonesian investors and foreign investors are welcomed.
