PowerBar Energy Bites Taste Just like Chocolate, but Give Your Body the Energy it Needs

Susan Slade
Sometimes I don't need a full size energy bar, so when I saw an offer on PowerBar Energy Bites, I decided to give them a try. The flavor I chose was chocolate.

They come in a resealable pack, and it states on the front that they 'Taste Great!'. They have 11 grams of protein per pouch, and give 'More energy with C2 MAX dual source energy blend'. There are no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives in them.

We are at our timeshare on Treasure Island beach. I had raisin bran for breakfast. I took a bottle of water with me, and walked the beach. I have just come in after walking 5.83 miles, and needed to put back some energy into my body.

I tried to tear the top off of the packet, and it wouldn't move, so I used scissors to cut it. Inside were nine ball shape bites. I decided to have one, which was 37 and a half calories.

On the outside it looks brown with white bits in it. When you bite into the PowerBar Energy Bites they taste of chocolate, and have small pieces of oats. The combination is good. It is semi-sweet, and not like a candy bar. One energy bite stopped me from being hungry.

The next day I walked 14.76 miles, and decided to have an energy bite each time I had completed an hour of walking. I checked on my pedmeter, and had used up over 700 calories, so knew that I wasn't eating too much.

Of course I did eat meals in between walking.

From their website:

"PowerBar Energy Bites are a great choice for use before or during exercise. They're formulated with PowerBar C2MAX dual source energy blend, a 2:1 glucose to fructose blend found to deliver 20'"50% more energy to muscles than glucose alone and improve endurance performance by 8%. Pop a few great tasting Energy Bites 30'"60 minutes before training to top off your energy stores. And for longer workouts, a few Bites during can help give you an additional kick to finish strong!"

They also give you a chart, so that you can work out how many PowerBar Energy Bites you should use, while working out. Here are the details:

"Your Body Weight Before and/or During
Bites 30'"60 minutes before activity Bites per hour during activity for 1'"2 hours*
100 lbs 3'"5 4'"5
150 lbs 5'"7 6'"7
200 lbs 7'"9 8'"9
For higher intensity training or races lasting two hours or more, have 45'"90g of C2 MAX carbs per hour."

The office staff at our timeshare were so impressed at my walking ability, and I told them about the energy bites. I ended up giving one of the ladies a resealable pouch with 4 in it to try. She walks, and it is so handy to have a snack, that you know is better than a candy bar, and you can have just one bite, and not waste the rest. Even worse, often you just eat the whole thing.

I know that this looks like a lot of sugar, but when I am working out I am not too worried about that. I look at the overall picture, and figure that 1 or 2 PowerBar Energy Bites, are much better than reaching for a cookie, or candy bar.
