Practical Uses for Clipboards

Got Clipboards!

Dina Montgomery

When you think of clipboards you probably are thinking of school days or your workplace. But having a clipboard or two around the house can be pretty handy in more ways than one. They come in very useful for many things other than just for writing. Here are some of the useful ways that you can use a clipboard; some of them just might surprise you.

Hanger for pants

I found that air drying my pants after they have been washed helps to preserve the color of the pants much longer than if I dried them in the dryer. So I'm continually trying to find places to air dry my pants and that is where my clipboard comes in really handy.

Take a clipboard and suspend it on a hook inside your closet or on your bedroom door and then slip the pants right under the clip and let them dry overnight. The next morning your pants will be dry and ready to wear. Since this trick works really well for me, I have numerous clipboards around my home just for this reason.

Perfect travel companion

How many times have you fumbled around with your road map on a trip and nearly pulled your hair out of your head just by pure frustration? I have done this and there is an easy way to make your trips more enjoyable and less stressful.

Fold the road map into the section that you are planning on traveling to and attach it to a clipboard for easy access. This way you don't have to keep folding and refolding, and for extra convenience, clip a pen into the clipboard so you always have something to write with when you need it. You won't have to be fumbling around in the car for that either.

Easy place mat storage

Create a convenient spot for your table place mats and you won't have to worry about losing them or worry about them cluttering up your dinner table when you're not using them. Hang a clipboard inside one of your kitchen cabinets and then simply clip the place mats on the clipboard for safe keeping. They will be out of the way and you will know exactly where they are next time you need them.

Sheet music holder

Many of my friends love to play the piano, but one complaint I repeatedly hear is that when they are playing near an open window, drafts blow in and blow their sheet music away right in the middle of their song.

That would be very annoying but luckily there is an easy fix to this. Simply get a clipboard and attach your sheet music to it and when the next breeze comes blowing in, the sheets of music will stay in place and you will be able to finish your song without any interruptions.

Recipe holder

I frequently like to look through my favorite magazines for recipes to try, and believe me; I have done a lot of clipping of these pages. I find it really hard to read the recipe while I'm cooking so I figured out a great way to make things a little easier.

I attach a clipboard within eye level in my kitchen where I do all my cooking. So when I need to look at the recipe for reference, it's right there. That way I don't have to go fumbling around trying to locate the recipe. It makes the job go a little smoother and makes cooking a lot more enjoyable too.

So if you have a clipboard or two lying around your home and don't really know what to do with them, put some of these ideas to use and you will find that the clipboard will become one of your best friends. They have for me.
