Practicing Shitali Pranayama can Cure Indigestion

Taru Mehta
The indigestion has become the most common diseases in this world as the quality of the food that we take is deteriorating day by day. This is due to the fast food liking developed by most of us in view of very less time available with all of us to cook the nutritious meals at home for our daily consumption. Once the digestion system has developed problems, all other systems of the body would start misbehaving as the food digestion is the key factor for all of us to remain fit and healthy. There are many allopathic medicines available to improve the digestion. However, the best course of action would be to treat indigestion by practicing pranayama techniques, which are quiet effective and do not cause any harmful side effects. Shitali is one such pranayam technique that can improve your digestion system within around 2 to 3 months of doing this pranayama.

Sit in the yogic posture in padhmasana, keeping your both the palms in open condition on your respective knees. Close your eyes and concentrate as if you are doing meditation by taking deep and slow breaths for around 3 minutes. Once you are settled and feel isolated from this world, start this pranayama. Bend your tongue from its outside end so as to make cylindrical shape inside your mouth. Inhale through your mouth, keeping your mouth open till both your lungs get completely full of the fresh air. Retain the air inside the lungs for as long as you can. You will feel the cold air inside your lungs spreading this coolness all along your body. Perform Jalandhar bandha with air retained inside the lungs. Jalandhar bandha can be done by bending your neck downwards so as to touch your chin with the pit of your neck. The detailed procedure on how to perform Jalandhar bandha has been explained in my previous articles. Then, arrange the tongue in its natural position, close your mouth and exhale very slowly through both the nostrils. Repeat this cycle for around 8 to 10 times per day in each sitting. It may take around five minutes for doing around 10 cycles of this pranayama.

This pranayama generates coolness in your body. Hence, this pranayama must not be done by the persons suffering from cold, cough, and allergy symptoms. Moreover, this pranayama may be restricted to around 5 to 6 times maximum during the winter season. However, it can be performed for 8 to 10 times maximum during the hot summer. The most vital factor while doing this pranayama is to feel the coolness getting spread in to the complete abdominal area. This pranayama cures acid burns (burning sensation in the stomach), indigestion, and purifies the blood by improving its white blood cells count. It also helps to establish control over the hunger and thirst. It also helps to control your blood pressure in case of patients of high blood pressure. It also helps to cure the diseases pertaining to throat area and the spleen. As you can see, this single pranayama can help in curing so many diseases. I have myself cured many patients of chronic indigestion by regular practice of this pranayama within around 2 to 3 months. The most vital factor is to perform this pranayama regularly on daily basis without even a single day's break.

I strongly urge all my AC readers to start practicing this pranayama immediately and derive all the benefits listed above without any harmful side effects of modern day medicines. If any of my readers have any doubt on how to perform this pranayama, they are free to contact me.
