Landings and takeoffs are a different story all together: especially those that have anything to do with water. Two in particular that come to mind are a runway at the National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas that ends just short of the the bank of the Arkansas River and the entire Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts where these awful air traffic controllers who have no idea of my fear have us circling out over the Atlantic Ocean as we are making what seems like a nosedive descent.
In the 23 years that I've been married; I have flown exactly 4 times without my husband...well 5 after we land in just over an hour. Yes, I'm writing this from our cruising altitude of 29,250 feet; according to the nice captain who greeted me as I boarded two hours ago. All 5 flights have raised my stress level just a little. Because when I fly with Mike he lets me hold his hand in a vice grip until we are either on the ground...or in the air. Although the older businessman sitting next to me seems nice, and has politely chatted over cheese nips, peanuts, soda and pretzels...somehow I don't think me grabbing his hand when we arrive in Phoenix is a good idea.
One of the things I love best about being this high in the air, is the view from below. I feel like I have just a taste of what God must see as He looks down on us. The rivers winding, the lakes sparkling in the sun, and the vast areas of what looks like absolutely nothing, but it is most likely desert have all passed below us. The captain just informed us that we were now in New Mexico, and the ground is covered in a blanket of snow, and I can see the peaks of the mountains rising into the sky.
And once again, I am amazed that God created all of this, with just the sound of His voice. He said Let it be...and there it was. I took just a moment to breathe a prayer of admiration and a thank you for giving me such a clear and beautiful day to enjoy the majesty below. And I have to wonder if anyone else in a window seat senses the awe that I'm feeling~~had they thought to praise Him for His Creations. David instructed us to do just that in Psalm 150:6 "Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD."
