Pratibha Patil Going to Be the First Female President of India

Today, the ruling party of India, Indian National Congress declared their nominee for 2007 Presidential election of India, which is scheduled on July 19. The proposed name is Pratibha Patil Shekhawat. If Patil wins the battle she will be the first female president of world's largest democratic country, India. The people of India welcome this news at verge of sixty years of independence of India.

The ruling coalition parties of government of India, known as UPA (United Progressive Alliance) declared her name after lots of disagreement incidents took place over last one month. According to CNN-IBN, the opposing party NDA is going to give a good flight against this UPA nominee. In a press conference NDA told, they are going to declare Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's name who will contest the Presidential poll, as claimed by CNN-IBN. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat is now present Vice-President of India.

Earlier there were lots of different names were floating around the capital city New Delhi. UPA first decided to select current defense minister and veteran politician Pranab Mukherjee as their nominee for 2007 Presidential election. But later they realized it will be difficult to manage the Government and party activity without this person. Mukherjee is very senior and the key person of Congress. Once he moved to Rasthapathi Bhawan (President House) Congress may face difficulty to get his advice during crisis. There was another view also for not selecting Mukherjee as the candidate for 2007 Presidential election. Mukherjee is very well known personality for his wisdom in Indian constitutional process and rules. His knowledge and personality may create problem for the current Government when Mukherjee will be acting as President of India. Later UPA decided yet another political personality Shibraj Patil as their candidate for 2007 Presidential election. But his name was rejected by other parties who are there in coalition.

Today evening the President of Indian National Congress Mrs. Sonia Gandhi declared Pratibha Patil's name as their choice for next President of India. Sonia Gandhi is originally from Italy and got married with former Prime Minister of India Rajib Gandhi and after death of Gandhi she came into active politics of India with a huge support from Congress party. From the current strength of UPA coalition party it is almost obvious that Pratibha Patil will not have to face a very tough competition during this 2007 Presidential election of India.

According to CNN-IBN, Pratibha Patil started her political career in 1962 when she first elected as legislative member of Maharastha (a State of India) assembly. She served as president of Indian National Congress for Maharastha. She is the first female Governor of India and currently she is working as Governor of Rajasthan (a state of India).
