Prayer Cards

Ministering to the Hurting

Would you like a short, sweet way to let others know you have been praying for them?

Ministering to the Hurting

If you are like me, you may know people in distress who turn to you for prayer, Christian advice and support. I have devised a quick, easy way to let someone know you have been praying for God's peace in their lives: prayer cards.

These convenient cards are an excellent way to follow up with someone who you have led to Christ. They are also a valuable tool for offering comfort to someone who is struggling with hardship.

Conveniently Sized

The cards are business-card sized. The reason I use business-sized cards for this is that they are small and easy to carry in one's wallet, pocket or purse. This ensures their availability at a moment's notice.

What to Write?

When working with a limited amount of space, it is best to keep your message short and sweet. Print on both sides, if you like.

For You

The front of the cards that I made say "For You" in a pretty, old-fashioned looking font. You could use "A Prayer For You" or other message that you like.

The backs of these cards can contain a short message of hope or Biblical promise. I composed a poem for mine, which reads:

God wanted me to give you this card today

to let you know I've taken the time to pray

that He will comfort and strengthen you

and you will trust Him to guide you through.

If you are not able to think of something original for your cards, I am happy to offer my poem to you for use in this form of ministry.

Scriptural Encouragement

It is a good idea to include a Bible verse or verses that the recipient may take comfort and encouragement from.

The Bible verse that I use is Romans 8:28, which has always been one of my favorite verses. It reads, in part:

"...we know that all things work together for good to them that love God."~ Romans 8:28, KJV

There are many Bible verses that would be suitable for this purpose. A nice way to do some Bible studying is to search the scriptures for verses that will encourage or comfort someone else, and composing these cards can inspire that sort of Scriptural scavenger hunt.

Add Your Contact Info

You can add your contact info if desired. This may be helpful to people who you are not in regular contact with. Another option would be to add your church's contact information.

Prayer cards can be a truly wonderful way of reaching out to the hurting. The thought that someone is thinking about and praying for us is a great encouragement when we feel depressed, angry or confused about life's ups and downs.
