Prayers for Christmas Dinner

Monica Bullock
Christmas is such a sweet special time of year. Spending time with family and friends. Watching the excitement of the children and adults as Christmas Day draws near. As the family gathers around the table to enjoy the wonderful meal, they will be looking to you to lead them in a Christmas prayer. Here are three prayers for Christmas dinner that could be used in a Christian home.

A Thankful Christmas Prayer

Dear Father,

We thank you for this past year with our Christmas prayer. We are thankful that we can be here together to celebrate Christmas as a family. Father, we thank you for your family and the gift of Jesus. We remember today, that baby in a manger and the humble man he became. We love your Son and we thank you for him.

Like the Wise Men, we bring you gifts today. They are not of gold or silver but of worship and praise to our God. Like the Shepherds we gratefully receive the good news and share it with everyone. Like the Angels, we declare Goodwill to All Men. Thank you Father God, for this wonderful Christmas.

Amen

A Prayer for Peace On Earth

Heavenly Father,

We celebrate this day as the day the Prince of Peace, Jesus, came to the earth. We pray that his work will continue and that today there would be Peace One Earth. Let no man stand against one another today. Let war cease and peace reign in our hearts and in our land. Father we ask that you send your peace, the heavenly peace to our leaders, to our representatives, to our homes and to every heart that beats on this earth.

We thank you for your peace and declare like the Angels did on Christmas Eve, "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace!"

Amen

A Grieving Family's Prayer

Dear Father,

We offer you this Christmas prayer out of love to you. We are happy to celebrate this Christmas, even though our heart aches for our loved ones. We do not understand why our loved one has left us. We do not understand the reasons. But we trust you and we know what the Bible tells us. One day we shall see them again and when we do, our loved one will be happy and whole.

Father, we thank you too for Jesus. We know also that your heart was broken when you saw your loved one broken on a cross. We don't understand it all, but we know that his death meant something significant to all of us. Just like his resurrection. Just as you Son rose again, so shall our loved one. We thank you for Christmas, because without Christmas there would be no Easter.

Here our prayer and heal our hearts Father God as we enter into the New Year. Help us to always know that you are on the throne and that will be well.

Amen
