Praying for Parenting Wisdom

I am a new mother. This is our first baby and she is already a month old. After going through so much in making the baby and during childbirth, our daughter is a much treasured addition to our family.

But despite wanting to best take care our baby, despite all the readings and asking of questions to anyone and everyone, there are really times when it gets really frustrating as new parents because we do not know what is wrong with the baby. Though not always, there are really times when she keeps fussing and crying and crying and we do not know what to do.

We would try to divert her attention, feed her, check everything around her, let others carry her, among others, to no avail. I have very supportive parents and in laws and they are trying to help, but sometimes, their experience and knowledge are not applicable and sometimes they end up blaming us for not being able to best take care of our baby.

So instead of remaining frustrated, I sought the fool proof solution that I can best think of--I prayed. I have prayed and asked God for wisdom and discernment to know what our baby needs whenever she cries. The obvious reasons are of course hunger, but sometimes, she just wants to be cuddled, or she is having colic. Or she feels hot. Or she feels cold. Or for other reasons. But we cannot know these all at first glance that is why I asked God for wisdom so that in my spirit, I will know what is wrong with the baby and know how to handle her.

I put my faith in God and asked God this way because believing that He is our Creator, I know that He alone can best help us. After all, He created us and no amount of people's experiences can compare to the knowledge of the Creator about His Creation. I know not everyone will agree with me or share my faith, as this matter depends on where our faith is, or in our case, on Whom our faith rests, but I thank God because He has led us to know how to answer our baby's needs.

I believe that if we need to know how to fix something, we have to ask the manufacturer. In things, we have to check the instruction manual from the manufacturer. And in our case, we go to the Divine Creator and asked for His help. Our daughter is just our daughter in this world. But ultimately, she is God's very own daughter so He knows better.

That is what I believe.
