Praying for a Rainbow

Laurie Meekis
Somewhere in between the broken promises and hopes of redemption,
from the scars that we two try so hard to heal,
our pasts that set the stones we stumble on in our lives, the voices we hear,
on a path not of our own making or choice,
and the fires that burned us deeply enough to leave a brand on our souls.
In that nether land, we temporarily lost our sight.

We would not have chosen this road they put us on now,
but in the quest for peace inside, and to honour those we love,
we lost sight of our own visions,
and of the spirit bird that guides us in our endeavors.
We believed that our answers lay in the trust of someone who, in the end,
has given us another wound to match the others, and we don't know why.

We pray for clarity now, in our clouds of despair and violation,
in the miles that keep us apart in body, but not in spirit, or soul
in the anger that haunts us, at someone who swore to be our champion,
and instead, left us to burn in flames we two, did not create.
Our sky begins to clear again, amidst the tears,
And we pray for our rainbow to stay with us this time.
