Praying for the Safety of Barack Obama

Clark Richards
I'll bet that amongst the many prayers that might emanate from the mouth of Hillary Clinton is one that ends - "and please Lord - keep Barack Obama safe." Clinton's recent mention about the assassination of Robert Kennedy in 1968, while explaining her intention to stay in the primary until June, is being treated politely by the press. Even the response from the staff of Barack Obama was somewhat muted.

Only the bloggers can really say what is on their minds without fear of some sort of journalistic retribution. What did Hillary really mean when she said, "We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California? Was she simply citing a historical fact about primaries that lasted until June or did she have a more direct message for any of the crazies who exist in our world? Both Hillary and Bill have made a number of statements that could be characterized as attempts to manipulate voters about race and other issues in this election. They have quickly responded to journalistic comments by stating that the meaning was misconstrued, taken out of context or provided some other lame excuse for their statements. Hillary quickly apologized for this statement and provided an explanation that she was simply stating historical fact and apologized if she offended anyone. But the fact remains that Hillary obviously mouthed what was on her mind.

Barack Obama has had a number of assassination threats and reportedly has been protected by the Secret Service for the past year. So what if something did happen to Obama or an attempt was made on his life? Would Hillary be blamed? This writer can't help but believe that at best Clinton is staying in the race hoping for something major to occur that will derail Obama. A revelation from his past, something - anything. It is not hard to imagine that Hillary and her innermost circle have not thought about the possibility of the demise of Obama. Likewise, one can also imagine that the same thoughts have occurred to those in the Obama camp. To publicly make a statement with the word assassination in it simply appears to confirm that the thoughts exist. It is no doubt a common, but very personal wish in a moment of frustration or anger to wish some sort of harm on those that might oppose us, however most would keep that thought ensconced in their innermost recesses.

So now Hillary has to include Obama in her prayers, lest something tragic happen and she might carry some responsibility for the calamity. The good news is that certainly the Secret Service have reexamined their protective efforts since the comments by Hillary. I wonder if she is in the prayers of the Secret Service for publicly uttering such a poor choice of words?
