Preakness Results

The stage was set for the 133rd Preakness Stakes and despite the threat of rain, the question looming on everybody's mind was can Big Brown deliver and become the next Triple Crown winner? The last time this happened was over 30 years ago when Affirmed swept through the Kentucky, Preakness and Belmont Stakes. Is Big Brown next?

Just like the giant delivery company he is named after (UPS) Big Brown delivered another stunning victory with enough energy left in the tank which brings his record to an impressive 5 starts with 5 wins. Macho again came in second and Icabad Crane was third.

Jockey Kent Desormeaux did not seem to have any problems from the start despite being placed at the seventh pole position which can get very crowded from the get go. He paced around the track with the pack and only turned on the after burners at the last turn as Big Brown easily cruised to victory winning by at least 5 lengths and Desormeaux did not even have to use his stick to propel this horse to the finish line.

Watching the race, it was clear that Big Brown had no competition from this field of 12 horses. In fact, the only other horse to garner some kind of attention was Gayego, who finished 17th at the Kentucky Derby. Other than these two horses, a couple of long shots were thrown in like Kentucky Bear, Tres Bossachos and Racecar Rhapsody. But clearly, everyone knew Big Brown was the horse to beat as his odds never went higher than 1-9.

If this is any indication of what is yet to come, expect Big Brown to deliver one more time and maybe just maybe become the 12th horse to win the Triple Crown.

Big Brown paid $2.40, $2.60 and $2.40 respectively. Macho again paid $17.20 and $10.40. Icabad Crane paid $5.60
