Predicting What Would be on Santa's Wish List for Christmas

Dragonfly
Everyone has some experience with the annual letter to Santa. Either you wrote one yourself or you helped a child write one. Do you remember how much thought went into it? Of course, everyone writing one was "good" that particular year. And if you didn't lie and said you were "bad," you followed that up with a reason why that was completely out of your control.

I am always amazed at the letters that children write when they ask for something for someone else. Those are the truly amazing ones. They are asking for good health for a sick relative, a special toy for a sibling, etc... I wonder if those letters are written quickly or does it take a lot of thought?

The holiday season is truly out of control. I don't say that to sound like scrooge but take a look on your neighborhood street and see the displays of lights that appear to get more grand each year. Then when you have not had Thanksgiving yet, but Christmas is front and center in the stores, well, isn't that a bit overwhelming that we don't give more thought to Thanksgiving than we do? Seems that everyone is trying to move fast in persuading customers to "spend their money here", and "buy your gifts here", and isn't there always a sense of great urgency?

I am not sure when this started getting out of control. Seems that it was a slow thing and most of it went un-noticed until we started seeing those huge blow up decorations that folks are anchoring down to their yards. Seems to me that once you have seen 8 or 10 of those, they lose their appeal. Do you remember when the yard deer were just new? People would have one discreetly placed in their yards. Now it is common to see whole herds . Cause you know the saying, "if one is good, 5 will be wonderful"!

Sometimes it also seems that folks are trying to "one up" their neighbors. This truly makes me wonder about the spirit in which we are supposed to experience the season.

I wonder if Santa was real in the form we wanted him to be, you know, big guy, jolly mood, and red suit of course and we could ask him what he himself would ask for for Christmas, what do you think he would write on his list? I think he would start with Mrs Clause first cause that's just the type of guy he is. He would probably ask for a special day for her since she has so much work in helping to get him ready for the nite before Christmas trip. Maybe he would also ask for an expandable suit since each year she has to "let it out" again.

I think he would ask for kindness between people. Strike up a conversation with the person you are waiting in line with. They may be having a tough day.

He would ask for generosity among us. If you have more of something than you will ever use, donate it!

I think he would ask for a giving spirit. The desire to "want" to give to others.

He would want us to stop trying to be better than the neighbors.

A compliment to a family member for a small gesture.

He would want all service personnel in the military to be home with their families during this holiday season.

He would want us to show others the skills we possess to allow others to achieve the skill.

He would like to see us accept the blame graciously when we are wrong. Grow and move forward from every lesson.

He would want to put an end once and for all to all abuse in the world. When we hurt others, we hurt ourselves!

He would want us to realize that no matter what, if you do the best you can in any situation, you can do know more than that.

What do you think he would ask for?

  • What would Santa ask for in his Christmas letter?
The season has really gotten out of hand in a commercial sense.

I agree but I gotta admit that my grandson absolutely loves going to see the Christmas lights around town.

D-Fly, I love the way you write, and have found myself re-reading and re-re-reading this chapter. I think Santa would ask to take these outlooks that you have expressed and put them into every Christmas stocking in America. -- Mike
