Predictions for the Fifth Season Premiere and Season of Jon and Kate Plus Eight

The fifth season premiere of Jon and Kate Plus Eight will air tonight, May 25th, 2009, at 9PM EST on TLC.

The Gosselins, stars of Jon and Kate Plus Eight, have come under staggering amounts of media scrutiny after allegations of affairs on the part of both adults recently. Magazine racks are full of gossip rags plastered with the faces of Jon and Kate Gosselin. Clearly, there is an issue that cannot be glossed over with the premiere of the new season. In this article, I am going to discuss what I feel can be expected from the season premiere and new season of Jon and Kate Plus Eight.

As mentioned above, there have been allegations of cheating by both Jon and Kate Gosselin. Likewise, there are incriminating pictures and people coming out of the woodwork to allege impropriety. The producers of Jon and Kate Plus Eight must do a form of damage control with the season premiere. Commercials seem to indicate that the topics of marital trouble and pressure from the paparazzi will play an integral part of the season premiere of Jon and Kate Plus Eight.

However, I feel that these problems will be addressed in a manner such that it gives the audience of Jon and Kate Plus Eight hope that the show and Gosselin marriage will continue. Again I say, "damage control." I don't think anything will be addressed specifically, such as either Jon or Kate saying, "I had an affair," because that would be a ratings nightmare and would likely ruin Kate's chances of marketing her books.

In general, I feel that the problems (other than media attention) will be approached very vaguely and with surgical precision, presenting Jon and Kate in the best, most hopeful light possible.

Another thing to note about this season of Jon and Kate Plus Eight is that the sextuplets will soon be entering kindergarden, meaning that they will not be home as often. This means that there are going to be fewer opportunities to film the kids, and also that the kids are probably going to start growing up. As the Gosselin children become less like toddlers and more like older children, I predict that viewership of Jon and Kate Plus Eight will go down. The sextuplets' fifth birthday party seems as if it will figure prominently in the season premiere of Jon and Kate Plus Eight, and it will be interesting how this will be approached.

I feel that their maturation will probably be shown in a positive light, and Kate will talk about how she's looking forward to them going to school and doing homework and being able to express themselves. And this is really the only way to keep viewership up, by focusing more on the kids' personalities and less on their actions and general cuteness.

I think that it will be interesting as the Gosselin children express themselves more coherently, as they will be able to show their personalities more than they normally do. I suspect that the Gosselin children will spend much more time in the interview chair than they have in past seasons, due to the awkwardness and lack of comfortability between Jon and Kate.

These are only educated guesses about what will happen in the season premiere and new season of Jon and Kate Plus Eight. Everything is still up in the air, but I'm sure we'll continue to hear about it for some time.
