Predictions Soar High for Seventh Harry Potter Book

Ian Doyle
The Harry Potter books, one of the most popular series today, are coming to a close with its seventh and final book. After the surprise ending in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, many fans have been jumping at the chance to practice their own form of Divination, the art of predicting the future. Many are guessing at the events to come in the seventh book, and even going so far as saying there will be more than seven books, though the author, J.K. Rowling assures that it will be her last.

The seventh book is called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, a very interesting title for the new book.

As to the rumors, while some are trying to figure what the final Horcruxes (treasures that contain a bit of Lord Voldemort's soul) will be, most have to do with who will live and who will die. They all range from the sensible to absolutely ridiculous

The phoenix is a mythical creature famous for bursting into flame moments before its time to die, then emerging from the ashes as a baby. Due to all the phoenix imagery portrayed in Harry Potter, from the phoenix feather contained in his wand, all the help he's gotten from Fawkes, Dumbledore's pet phoenix, and even the Order of the Phoenix, a kind of army against the Death Eaters, many believe Harry will be something of a Christ-figure, dying to defeat Voldemort and then rising again. Keep in mind the many similarities between Harry and Voldemort, as Voldemort did indeed come back from life in a sense.

Hermione and Ron, Harry's best friends, are both believed to live at the end, though Hermione may suffer an intense emotional crisis and Ron comes through relatively undamaged.

Neville, a wizard the same age as Harry and never that talented, is expected to have a few close calls where his abilities really come through for him.

During an interview with Rowling, she once mentioned "a big fan of Harry's will die." Seeing as Colin Creevey and his brother are incredibly obsessed with "The Boy Who Lived," it stands to reason it'll be one of these two.

Draco Malfoy showed a hint of kindness, when his waver resolved itself as he was trying to kill Dumbledorf. One cliché is that the evil-turned-good character never gets to live to the end of this story.

The dementors, always associated with death due to their ability to suck happiness and one's soul away from one's body, are expected to be part of the ultimate demise of Voldemort.

Seeing as these are only bits of gossip and rumors with no credibility, there's no way to actually verify if these are actually going to be a part of the seventh book or not. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows is scheduled to come out late in the summer. Many bookstores are even now taking reservations, and even more Internet sites are reserving requests for pre-ordered books.

Such is the popularity of Harry and his magical, deadly world. Hundreds have copies have already been ordered and it's not even published yet. There are many Internet sites devoted to the wondrous world, hundreds of fan-fiction spin-offs of Harry Potter, and the movies have an entire faction of devoted enthusiasts.
