If you have just found out that you are pregnant or have a baby bump already then congratulations! You are about to embark on a wonderful journey that will revolutionize your life for the better. However, before that you have to get through nine months of what could be heaven or hell, depending on how good or bad your pregnancy is. Some women love being pregnant whilst others hate it, but no matter which camp you fall into there are several pregnancy facts you should know.

Pregnancy fact one - The whole eating for two thing is a myth and will lead to you putting on more weight than is healthy during your pregnancy. You should never eat any more calories than you normally do during the first two trimesters. In fact, you should only eat 200 calories more during the third trimester. This is just so you have enough energy to make it through the remaining days of your healthy pregnancy. You should eat certain foods that are nutrient rich, like fruit and vegetables, but no extra calories.

Pregnancy fact two - Exercise is the key to a healthy pregnancy. Exercise gets the blood pumping and increases the circulation. As such, exercise will ensure that your blood flow is healthy and gets all of the necessary nutrients to the baby.

Pregnancy fact three - You should take folic acid for the first three months of your pregnancy. If you baby is to develop a brain disorder then he or she will usually do so within the first month of pregnancy. Taking folic acid can help you to prevent that happening to your baby. This is not a foolproof plan, but it does go a long way to helping ensure a healthy pregnancy

Pregnancy fact four - Strangely in relation to the facts above, you should take care when handling a cat if you have one. Dogs are completely harmless when you are pregnant but cats can pose a risk because they can have toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis is an infection that is spread through cat faeces and can cause a number of effects on your baby from premature birth to jaundice to mental retardation. As such, get your partner to take care of any business your cat may do in the house. This is a strange fact but one every expectant woman should be aware of during pregnancy. After all, the more you know the healthier a pregnancy you can have!
