There are a few tips to discuss when you are having an emergency scare. When having an emergency scare you should call your doctor immediately. If the doctor is unavailable then it is best to leave a message. If the doctor does not call you back within a few minutes, call back and ask to speak with an on call nurse. If the nurse is unavailable you will need to go to an emergency room or urgent care immediately. For minor scares, you should probably wait for your doctor to call back.
When you are reporting any of the following, you will need to mention any and all of your symptoms to the health care physician. You need to be specific! Mention how long the symptoms have been occurring, when they occurred, and if you have had any relief from the symptoms. You will also need to tell them if you took any medications to relieve the symptoms.
When to call the doctor:
Severe lower abdominal pain. If you have lower abdominal pain on one or both sides you should definitely call your doctor the same day of the occurrence. If you have bleeding, nausea, and or vomiting along with the pain then you should call immediately.
If you have severe upper mid-abdominal pain with our without swelling hands and face and or nausea, call the doctor.
If you have any vaginal spotting or bleeding you need to call the doctor the same day of the occurrence.
Heavy vaginal bleeding. If you are bleeding heavily and have abdominal and or back pain separate or combined, call the doctor immediately.
If your nipples, rectum, or bladder are bleeding call your doctor the same day.
If you are coughing up blood, call your doctor immediately.
Gushes of fluid coming from the vagina then call your doctor. If you are steady leaking fluid call your doctor.
No urination for an entire day and/or a sudden thirst with pause in urination.
If your hands, face, eyes become swollen and or puffy call the doctor the same day. If this happens suddenly, severely and accompanied by a headache, call the doctor immediately.
If it is very painful to urinate, call your doctor the same day. If you have painful urination, fever over 102 degrees, chills and a backache, call the doctor immediately.
Change in vision. Vision disturbances, for example, blurring, dimming, double vision, that persist more than two hours, call the doctor.
If you faint or have dizziness, call the same day.
Chills and fever over 100 degrees if you do not have a cold or flu, then you will need to call the same day.
Extreme nausea and vomiting. This means vomiting more than two or three times daily during the later trimesters call doctor immediately.
If you gain more than two pounds and you did not over eat and you have swelling of the face and hands with a headache or visual disturbance, then you will need to call the doctor immediately.
If you do not feel the fetus move for more than 24 hours after the 20th week of pregnancy, you need to call you doctor the same day. If you notice fewer than ten movements per hour after 28 weeks, call immediately.
If you are itching severely accompanied with or without dark urine, pale stools, jaundice, then call your doctor the same day.
