Premarital Sex: My Personal View & Reasons Why People May or May Not Practice Abstinence

Although you could find me in church every Sunday as a young girl, staying pure until marriage was never something I was going to do. I figured that with a divorce rate of 50%+...waiting until marriage with the chances of it lasting not being in my favor... Well, why wait all that time for one person when it may not even last? I decided that I simply wanted to be in love. Therefore, I did just that. I waited until I was in love, with a person who had changed my life, at the right time in our relationship, and after discussing his sexual past. I never felt pressured and when it happened, it was beautiful, just as I imagined it and just as it should be. It is something I'll never forget and I don't regret my choice at all.

A few reasons people abstain from sex until marriage is because of religious reasons, fear or getting pregnant, to not get infected with a disease that could cause pain in future relationships, etc. Abstaining for me just wasn't the right choice. There are measures and precautions to take to prevent pregnancy and disease, so taking those precautions were definitely something I was going to do. As for religious reasons, I still saw no point in waiting. People sin every day. They may end up repenting those sins, but they continue to repeat that sin regardless of their remorseful attitude. This would just another one of those sins.

Some reasons people don't abstain from sex is because they feel pressured, they're not in the right state of mind, they just don't care, they want to wait until they're ready, in love, etc. Everyone has different reasons. Some good reasons and some of course, that aren't such great reasons. Sex is a very personal choice and I think that there should be some time spent thinking about whether it's right for you at this moment or if you feel you should wait until marriage. Many things may factor into it, like whether or not you think you'll regret it, if you can handle the consequences should something happen, what kind of protection you will use, etc.

Never be afraid to say no and to stand up for what you believe in. The world is full of choices and the only one that can make those choices is you. Make sure you make the right one regarding sex, because this is one choice that you can't change or take back no matter how much you may want to.
