Premeir SLK 849W Gas Range. Pros and Cons

Stove Has Griddle or Fifth Burner

Sherry Tomfeld
When researching this stove, I found a lot of information and some reviews. I now own a Premeir SLK 849W gas range and can give the pros and cons as I know them. My stove has to be a workhorse in the kitchen. I cook and bake from scratch and I pressure can a lot of food. I need a stove that will hold up under this work.

I came across the Premeir SLK 849W gas range while searching the Internet. I loved the looks, the added griddle and 5th burner. This model is also 36" wide. We had the extra room, make sure you measure!

CONS of Premeir SLK 849W Gas Range

1.The oven vents on top. This means that when the oven is on, the hot air is coming out towards you. It's not a deal breaker for me. In the winter I appreciate it and in the summer I won't bake in the high heat of the day.

2.A temperature gauge says the oven is about 25 degrees cooler that the dial says. Not a big deal for me as the electric stove I replaced did the same thing.

PROS of Premeir SLK 849 Gas Range

1. I love the griddle. It is no stick and comes with a stainless steel cover. Fry eggs with no oil or make great pancakes and grilled cheese.

2. Easier to use the pressure canner on this stove.

3. This stove is easy to clean and always looks great.

4. The stove virtually comes apart. Makes cleaning and repairs easier.

5. The company website and customer service is excellent. I called to ask some questions and was fully satisfied.

6. The hook-up man said the stove was one of the best made ranges he'd seen in the past 30 years.

7. Premeir electric and gas ranges are made in the U.S.A.!

8. Going from the griddle to the 5th burner is so simple. Just lift the griddle up and set the 5th burner in.

9. I like the dials for the burners and oven in the front. I don't like reaching across like I had to do with my old electric stove.

10. The shipping and handling of the Premeir gas range was wonderful. Not a scratch, ding or missing part.

This is what I have found to be true with my new Premeir SLK 849 W gas range. I love it and I would actually recommend it.

Forgot to mention tha the oven/broiler ignitor has stopped working and the door for storage of cookie sheets has worn out and does not close properly anymore.

I have owned this model for 5 years now. The enamel is cracked and flaking off on the front corners of the range cover. The only thing I can attribute it to is the flex of the large cover when it is opened to clean underneath it. I also have cracked and peeling down in the wells around the gas burners. I do not know what caused it but suspect it to be a combination of heat and thin enamel. The rollers on the broiler drawer have broken making it very difficult to open and close the broiler drawer. This range was purchased to replace a 20 year old Kenmore range that was almost identical to this model. The old Kenmore looked in better shape at its age than this one does at 5 years old. Will not purchase another one and cannot recommend it to others.

OOOH, I'd love the griddle. I use to have one on an old pink stove I had in Kansas. Loved it!
