Premiership Review

James Kent
The opening weekend of the Premiership was an interesting one. West Ham starting off with a slender 2-1 success over Wigan. Both those sides will hope to kick on this season and feature in the top half of the table. Dean Ashton stole the show with two well taken first half goals. Ashton will hope to force his way back into the England squad by scoring goals. Liverpool hit Sunderland late to record a 1-0 win. It was Fernando Torres who hit the winner for Liverpool it's a big season where they will hope to close in on Manchester United and Chelsea. Sunderland will just want to stay away from the relegation zone. Middlesbrough recorded a somewhat surprising win over Spurs they are another side who is expected to feature at the lower end of the table. Spurs fan will demand at least top six after an impressive pre season and big name signings brought in. Hull was another team who recorded a surprising victory. Both Hull and Fulham who were beaten 2-1 by the newly promoted team are expected to struggle. Everton were rolled over 3-2 at home and both those sides are expected to finish in the top half of the table. However, both have lost big players in Andy Johnson for Everton and David Bentley for Blackburn.

Bolton beat Stoke 3-1. Stoke will need to change the way they play if they want to stay in this league. Bolton will hope to stay out of trouble and new 10 million pound forward Elmander grabbed himself a debut goal. Arsenal opened with a 1-0 win over West Brom and will need to get better, but Nasri scored his first goal. Arsenal will be looking to challenge for the title this year, but it will be tough with what looks like a weaker squad. Manchester United showed signs of missing Ronaldo as they could only draw with Newcastle. It's a big season for Newcastle as they look to challenge for a place in the top six. Chelsea wins my award for win of the weekend after thrashing Portsmouth 4-0. The Londoners looked really impressive with new signing Deco standing out. I expect Chelsea to push Manchester United very close this season. Aston Villa also won with a 4-2 success over Manchester City. A special mention for Agbonahor scored a wonderful seven minute hat trick and should be very happy with his first appearance of the season.
