Prepaid Plans. First lets take a look at the prepaid cellular telephone advantages. The prepaid or pay as you go cellphones allow parents to take control of cellphone talk time and monthly bills. These cellphones are available without having to sign a contract or pay high fees. In addition, there is no need to supply a credit card. Prepaid is a great option for parents whom want to get their teens a cell phone but want to be in control of it. I got my son a Tracfone. His service averages less than $7 a month when I buy a $20 airtime card, which provides 60 minutes of airtime and three months of service. Tracfone gives me the safety and security of a wireless phone without the problems of a contract and monthly fees.

You know everyone has and is entitled to their opinions. I would like to share my experience with Tracfone. From the sale (about 6 months ago)to enrolling to buying minutes has been a positive so far. No more contracts for me. And, now I have discovered that you can buy a Double Your Minutes for Life card. You pay a one-time fee and then every time you buy minutes, you actually get double what you pay for. The phone gets a lot of use, so this is a great deal!

@jsmith, I checked out the kajeet plans but unfortunately the Sprint network is non-existent around our home area. I signed up for a Sprint phone a while ago and had to return it within two days because it was just not working anywhere near my home. We now use NET10 prepaid phones for our kids and they are actually really great! Excellent coverage, low prices and good phone selection. Our kids love 'em.
