Prepare Your Own Insecticides

Keith Dailey
To get rid of pests in your home garden, it is always a possibility to simply pick up an insecticide at a local store in your vicinity. However, these may turn out to be harsh chemicals that you may not want present around your home. To solve this problem, simply opt for natural insecticide; by doing so, you can even prepare them on your own.

With boric acid powder, you can whip up a lot of different types of natural insecticide. If you want to get rid of ants, take around a tablespoon of boric acid and add some water, as well as a teaspoon of sugar to it. Use a cotton ball to dip in the mixture and spread it out on the path of the ants. By getting rid of these ants, you will also lessen the possibility of receiving aphids. To get rid of aphids, you can produce a natural insecticide, which is a stinging nettle spray. Soak some nettles in water for about a month and after they are fermented, dilute it with water so that it is ready to spray.

If you want to get rid of roaches, simply sprinkle the powder on the path of the roaches. If you want to get rid of termites, you can mix boric acid with a non-toxic type of anti-freeze known as propylene glycol. If you want to get rid of small pests on your plans, you can produce a garlic spray. Just finely chop up some garlic and let it soak in some paraffin oil for 24 hours. Then, dissolve some soap in water and add it to the mixture. Stir this gently, and strain it in cheese cloth. Store it in a glass container and your natural insecticide will be completely ready for use.

To terminate the Colorado potato beetle, there are several ways that you can use. You can soak cedar chips into tea and turn it into a spray that you can use on plants. Or you can use another kind of foliage spray called tansy spray that works as natural insecticide. Dry out some tansy and grind it up with a mortar and pestle. After mixing water, you can turn it into a natural insecticide spray.

To get rid of cutworms, a natural insecticide spray made out of water and pineapple weed or sagebrush extract is a good choice. Or, if you just want to paralyze the cutworms, you can mix bran or sawdust with molasses. It is preferred to spray this onto plants during the night.

Tomato horn worms are also fond of eating tomatoes and other vegetables. By covering your plants with cornmeal, the digestive systems of the tomato horn worms will pop because they cannot handle eating it.

There are a number of natural insecticides that works against various pests. All of these natural insecticides are safe for use around the household, as children and pets will not be affected through a mixture of boric acid and other household ingredients. Although not all of them can be produced in your own kitchen, a lot of them can and it will make the use of natural insecticide just that much easier.
