Prepare Your Soul for a New Body

Stephen St. John
There is a famous proverb that says, "Those who are much concerned with the care of the body, usually give little care to the soul." This is not to suggest that caring for the body or the physical life is improper. God created our bodies and the things we enjoy in the body. We can receive good gifts and worldly comforts with thanksgiving to our Creator. However, sometimes we are so focused on caring for ourselves in this world that we forget about the world to come.

"While bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and the life to come" (1 Tim. 4:8). Easter is an excellent time to think about the life to come. Jesus did not suffer for us, die for us, and conquer the grave so we can be content with the small and fleeting pleasures of this earth. He came to open the gate of heaven, so that our life today can be a preface to the glorious eternal life of tomorrow.

Are you living in light of eternity? Are you getting your soul ready to inhabit a new glorious resurrection body or are you still focused on the empty shell that is your home now?

"I tell you this, brothers:flesh and bloodcannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. Forthe trumpet will sound, andthe dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed" (1 Cor. 15:50-52).
