Preparing the Garden

A Poem for Spring

Charlie Rossiter
New topsoil on my spade,
I turn it, plunge again,
a softness like morning,
a fresh sweet scent
in the air.

You are inside doing things.
Soon you will be outside,
mud on your shoes
and we will
scatter the seeds
you chose, then
we will watch and wait
together, we will see
the flowering.
