The outside of the home is the most important thing about selling your home. If the potential buyer doesn't like the look of the outside then they won't take the time to even consider looking on the inside. You have to make the outside look inviting. You can do this by trimming hedges, and bushes making everything look neat and tidy. Painting the front door is very inexpensive to do. A quart of paint should be enough to do the door and will make a huge difference. Painting the trim and the shutters around the windows is another thing that would make a difference and is inexpensive to do. If you have a cement driveway that has stains from automobiles dripping on it, buy the cement cleaner and clean it off. If there are bare spots in your grass, buy grass seed and fill in the spots.
On the inside you want everything to sparkle and look clean. De-cluttering is one of the biggest things that you can do that is also free. Pack the things away that will distract the buyers from looking at the home. A less cluttered room also looks bigger. Moving out excess furniture and storing in the shed or garage will help rooms look bigger. If the carpet is a different color or shows traffic patterns rent a steam cleaner and clean the carpets.
Painting walls inside can make a big difference. You want to paint a neutral color like wheat color. These can be done in a weekend, and paint isn't that expensive and can make your home present better and sell faster. Sometimes you can find new unopened paint given away for free on craigslist.com. This is how I got my paint for free to repaint my home before selling it.
Replacing light bulbs with higher wattage bulbs so that the rooms look brighter should be done in every room. If your drapes are heavy and dark, you may want to take them down or tie them back to let the natural sunlight shine through the home. You want the rooms to look bright and inviting.
The backyard shouldn't be overlooked. If you have a patio make it look like it's a great place to entertain. From the inside of the house you want easy access to the backyard and patio area. Move furniture around so that its easy to get outside this will appeal to many buyers.
As you can see you can prepare your home for sale with just a few bucks. Most of the budget will go to paint then lighting and carpet cleaning if needed. It will require physical work on your part to save money but selling a home quickly is the best payoff. When getting your home ready to sell, you have to think about what the buyer would be looking for. This is how you sell quick, think of the buyers.
