Preparing for Preschool Using IPod Touch Games

Sarah Holmes
As a stay at home mom, I am constantly on the look out for products which help my children to learn the concepts they need to know to build on when they hit their school years. I was recently given an IPod Touch for Christmas and it has opened up a whole new way to teach my kids.

Some parents hire tutors, send their kids to daycare or purchase expensive learning tools to teach their children. I do none of these, I simply pull out my IPod Touch. Teaching a kid with video games? You have got to be kidding? I know these statements are flowing through your head. Actually, yes! The IPod Touch has opened up a whole new realm of teaching my children. I can download games which are engaging, fun and informative. My daughter is finding a new fascination for words, letters and telling time! At 3 years old, she is asking me about the hands on the clock. Certainly this is a great new way to teach a child.

How do I use this simple gadget to teach my children? First, I go online and search for articles to help me make informative choices about the best IPod games for toddlers. Then, I use my IPod to navigate to the app store and download those games. Most of the games I download are free. Some examples include Labyrinth, Hatch!, eliasZoo, Vocal Zoo, ABCMaze, Bubble Snap, Animal Match and Traffic Rush. Some of the games I mentioned are educational and some are just for fun. All of the games are worth checking into for toddlers and preschoolers. There are a few games I have purchased for 99 cents, however, for the most part a lot of the best toddler and preschool games are free.

My daughter loves a game called "Feed Me!". It is a monster that eats the correct answer and thinks wrong answers taste gross. She laughs and laughs. It engages her and makes her think. With this game, I find her asking me what the correct time is on the clock. She wants to make the monster happy and strives to learn the concepts as a result. My son is younger and enjoys games like eliasZoo, Vocal Zoo, Letter Quiz and Hatch. The game which currently amazes me the most is Letter Quiz. At a year and a half, he loves playing this game. As a result he is bound to learn to recognize his letters at an incredibly early age. Using the Letter Quiz, I also discovered my daughter knows more of her letters than I would have suspected. Because of these game and several others, I believe IPod Touch is one of the best ways I can prepare my children for kindergarten.

The IPod is a terrific free way to educate your child. There are several great games which you can purchase inexpensively or even download for free. If you do not have the money to purchase the 99 cent games, you can easily educate your child using the free and lite versions of many popular preschool and toddler games. Several of the games are well made. A large majority of the games for preschoolers I have downloaded are engaging, free and educational. I highly recommend using the IPod Touch to prepare your child for kindergarten.
