Preparing for Your Wildlife Backpacking Trip

Take Your Camera to get shots of Scenery and Wildlife

When taking a backpacking trip to increase your inventory of photographs, the most important thing is to bring what you need while, at the same time, packing light. Make sure that only the essentials are taken and your backpack weighs the least possible. The purpose of the trip is to take photographs and you may have to forego your comfort to get the best shots. The following information will help you in deciding what you need to take with you and finally, how to get the best shots out on the trail.

First of all, your backpack should not weigh a ton and should be of a medium size. You want to make sure that if a perfect shot comes up, you're able to get the backpack off you in record time. When picking out your pack, a dealer can help you decide what the best fit is for your body frame. The better fit you have, the more weight you can carry and not be uncomfortable. However, when packing your bag, only take the essentials. You want to make sure you have a change of clothing in case you get wet, and include some lightweight raingear.

Your tent should be small and light, as well. There are tents available that weigh just a few pounds or you could get away with a sleeping bag with a dome head region. These will allow you to be warm and out of the weather. Also, if backpacking is something you do often, you may want to invest in a water filter, instead of bringing your own water along. While the best are more expensive, they will keep you safe when drinking water from the mountains and will lessen your load a great deal. When packing food, pack what you need. If you can live off granola bars and dried snacks while backpacking, you can forego the small cook stove. Make sure you also bring a flashlight, first aid kit, and a compass and map. These are definitely essentials when backpacking.

Once you have all your essential needs taken care of, you need to figure out what type of camera equipment you want to bring along. A tripod is one of the essential tools you should bring with you. This will allow you to steady your aim and get the best shots possible. Everyone has their own favorite cameras to use, just make sure that you bring wide-angle lens for those panoramic views.

The purpose of this trip you take is to take the best photographs while backpacking. Where you decide to take this trip depends on the types of shots you wish to gather. Many backpacking photographers go for the scenic beauty of the mountains and trails, while others are along for the wildlife photography. Whatever your wish, while backpacking through rugged terrain, you are sure to come away with some photographs of a lifetime if you take your time with the shot.

For wildlife photographs, the most important thing is to not disturb them. You want your shot of wildlife to be in their natural surroundings, not scurrying about to get away from this new threat to their territory.

While scenery shots differ from wildlife shots, you still must be quick to get your aim in. Skylights can change in a second and many photographers have lost the once in a lifetime photograph by taking too much time to prepare. The main thing to remember if you miss your shot is to practice. There is no one that goes out and has a perfect photography session every time. Shots are missed everyday. However, the more you practice, the more efficient and unflawed your photographs will be.

With your backpacking trip, remember to pack lightly and take what is essential to your survival in the woods. Enjoy the scenery and practice getting the photographs taken efficiently and artistically.
